Twenty years have passed since Anakin teamed up with Obi-Wan to liberate Palpatine, and now, are Star Wars enthusiasts truly able to recapture the enchantment of “Revenge of the Sith” by re-releasing it for a fresh viewing?

To many devoted Star Wars enthusiasts, especially the younger generation, experiencing the initial films in a grand cinema setting could well feel like entering paradise itself. Given the varied responses to the television adaptations of the series, this becomes even more comprehensible.

Even though Andor Season 2 hasn’t been released yet, shows such as The Acolyte and Skeleton Crew have fallen short in various aspects. On the other hand, Star Wars is venturing into new territories with its upcoming films, with Lando (originally intended for TV) and The Mandalorian & Grogu being examples of this change in direction.

By 2025, the focus will shift towards cinematic classics. The iconic film “Revenge of the Sith” marks its twentieth anniversary in May, offering fans a chance to revisit Episode III in theaters once more.

When is the Revenge of the Sith re-release?

Great news! Disney/Lucasfilm will bring back Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith to movie theaters on April 25, 2025, in celebration of its 20th anniversary!

For U.S. fans who dislike motion sickness, there’s fantastic news! You’ll now have the chance to enjoy Episode III for the first time in 4DX. In case you’re not familiar, this means you’ll sit on a moving chair that syncs with the film’s action, accompanied by special effects (your popcorn remains stationary).

According to a press release, “This crucial part of the Skywalker saga, which unfolds on the thrilling battlefields of Coruscant and the fiery volcanic landscapes of Mustafar, can now be reexperienced. The 4DX experience offers advanced motion seats synchronized with over 21 effects, all carefully crafted to enhance the storyline of the film.

Revenge of the Sith takes place three years after the Clone Wars started. During this time, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker rescue Chancellor Palpatine from General Grievous, but Grievous manages to get away. The Jedi Council grows suspicious of Chancellor Palpatine, especially since Anakin is close friends with him. They ask Anakin to keep an eye on the chancellor, but this makes Anakin resentful towards the Council. Eventually, he turns to the Dark Side.

How to get tickets

Unfortunately, tickets haven’t been released for booking just yet, but once they are, you can probably find them on AMC or Fandango.

As a gamer, mark your calendars! I’m anticipating some exciting drops around late March. If everything goes according to plan, we might just get our hands on tickets about 3-4 weeks before April 25th. Stay tuned and keep your fingers crossed!

Currently, the screenings will be available in certain US theaters and various international locations for a limited one-week period. The screenings encompass multiple formats, so it’s advisable to check your local listings to determine if you have access to standard 2D and 4DX showings.

It remains undecided whether The Force Awakens, set to mark its 10th anniversary in 2025, will follow the trend and have a re-release in December if it does.
