Don’t expect Mark Hamill to return to the “Star Wars” universe anytime soon.
In a recent conversation with ComicBook, Mark Hamill, who portrayed Luke Skywalker in the original “Star Wars” trilogy, talked about his role within the iconic sci-fi series. Starting it all with “A New Hope” alongside Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher back in 1977, Hamill has no plans to expand the story any more.
I’m incredibly thankful to George Lucas for allowing me to join the team during those early days when ‘Star Wars’ was labeled as ‘the most costly low-budget film ever produced.’ As he put it, ‘We never envisioned it would turn into an enduring franchise and a pop culture phenomenon.’ Nevertheless, my time has passed, and I’m grateful for the experience. However, I believe the focus should now shift towards the future and the new characters that will carry the story forward.”

“I owe a huge debt of gratitude to George Lucas for giving me a role in those early Star Wars days, when he referred to it as ‘the most expensive low-budget movie ever made.’ Back then, we never imagined it would become such an iconic franchise and a cornerstone of pop culture. But my time has come and gone, and I’m appreciative for the opportunity. However, I think it’s time to focus on the future and the new characters that will drive the story forward.
He went on, playfully commenting, “I vanished in ‘The Last Jedi’, I left my robe there. There’s simply no chance I’ll show up as a spirit without any clothing.
In the year 2019, Hamill’s significant role as Luke Skywalker in “Star Wars” came as a spirit force in “Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker.” Additionally, he had brief appearances where his younger self was digitally recreated and motion captured effects were used for him in shows like “The Mandalorian” and “The Book of Boba Fett.
Released in 1977, ‘Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope’ has left an indelible mark on cinema history and continues to do so. It sparked a long line of sequels, prequels, and related series, making a total of 12 films as of now, along with numerous television shows that take place within the ‘Star Wars’ galaxy.
Upcoming stories set in a distant galaxy are titled “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” featuring Pedro Pascal as the masked traveler alongside baby Yoda, and “Star Wars: Starfighter,” with Ryan Gosling taking center stage.
