Mark Duplass’ Coming-of-Age Series ‘Penelope’ Picked Up for Worldwide by Fremantle

As a follower who has spent years navigating the complexities of modern society and finding solace in the simplicity of nature, I am genuinely excited about the upcoming series “Penelope.” The story of a young woman seeking refuge in the wilderness resonates deeply with my own experiences, and I can’t wait to see how this coming-of-age tale unfolds.

Media titan Fremantle has secured global distribution rights for the independent coming-of-age drama, “Penelope,” which was produced by Duplass Brothers Productions (responsible for “Somebody Somewhere” and “Room 104”).

Produced by Mark Duplass and Mel Eslyn, the 8-episode series had its debut at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival and will be available for streaming on Netflix in the United States starting from September 24th.

The story revolves around Penelope, portrayed by Megan Stott (known from “Little Fires Everywhere” and “Yes Day”), who feels misplaced in contemporary society and is mysteriously pulled towards the untamed wilderness of a National Forest. Here, she embarks on creating a fresh existence for herself.

In addition to Stott, the actors in this production are Austin Abrams (known for “Euphoria” and “Dash & Lily”), Krisha Fairchild (renowned for “Krisha” and “Channel Zero”), and Rhenzy Feliz (“The Penguin” and “All Together Now”).

I’m thrilled to collaborate with the respected Duplass Brothers in presenting ‘Penelope’ globally. This top-tier, coming-of-age series offers a powerful emotional core and stunning visuals, all while tackling significant, contemporary issues that resonate deeply within our daily experiences,” commented Rebecca Dundon, head of scripted content for international Fremantle. “The moving storyline of ‘Penelope’, focusing on survival and self-discovery, is certain to win the affection of countless viewers worldwide.

As a cinephile deeply invested in our project, let me express how precious Penelope is to us. We wouldn’t hand her over lightly to just anyone. It’s heartening to have collaborators who grasp our vision, share our passion, and fuel our ambition for a broader dialogue.

In my perspective, I’m thrilled to be a part of the creative team behind “Penelope.” This captivating series is the brainchild of Mark Duplass, who has previously impressed us with shows like “The Morning Show” and “The One I Love,” and Mel Eslyn, known for her work on “Biosphere” and “Room 104.
