Mark Cuban shocks Pokimane, Valkyrae & more revealing how he helped create Twitch

As a fan who has grown up witnessing the evolution of online streaming, I must say that hearing Mark Cuban share his role in the creation of Twitch was like finding out that the Great Pyramid of Giza was built by my great-great-grandfather. It’s mind-blowing to realize that the man who started a company before most of today’s influencers were even born, played a pivotal role in shaping the platform we all know and love.

In a live broadcast with Austinshow, Valkyrae, Pokimane, Sykkuno, and Hank Green, business magnate Mark Cuban shared the tale of his role in helping Justin Kan eventually launch Twitch.

In the year 2007, Justin Kan established JustinTV, a platform that broadcasted his daily life continuously through a webcam mounted on his head, providing non-stop coverage.

Approximately eight months past this point, the site underwent an expansion, providing additional users with live streaming capabilities. As a result, the platform attracted over 30 million distinct monthly viewers. In the year 2014, JustinTV ceased operations following its evolution into Twitch, which had achieved success in its place.

In a live chat on Twitch with popular personalities such as Austinshow, Pokimane, Sykkuno, Hank Green from YouTube, and Valkyrae, wealthy businessman Mark Cuban disclosed his role in shaping the genesis of Justin.tv and Twitch.

“I started a company before JustinTV called audio net, which turned into broadcast dot com, which was the first streaming company ever,” he said. “Then this dude named Justin came to me and was asking me about streaming. [That conversation] turned into JustinTV, which turned into Twitch,” he said.

All of the influencers on the stream were shocked to hear the lore. Austinshow said: “Oh wow, so you’ve known about [streaming] for quite some time.”

“Oh yeah, I go way way way back… before you guys were born,” Cuban replied.

Besides that single topic, Cuban also discussed various other things during his livestream with the influencers. Pokimane inquired about a reported $200,000 offer for playing games together, which was allegedly made by someone claiming to be Mark Cuban, during CDawgVA’s annual charity auction.

He told the Twitch star, “That wasn’t I who did it.” He emphasized that he would have spent any sum of money. You can be certain it wasn’t him since [the bid] fell short.

It’s not surprising that Mark Cuban could afford to pay large sums of money, given his approximately $5.7 billion net worth. Among his various investments are the Dallas Mavericks basketball team and the whole town of Mustang, Texas.
