Mario Kart World’s Free Roam Mode Features Missions, Hidden Collectibles, And More

The Nintendo Direct presentation unveiled numerous activities that gamers can engage in during the open-world free exploration mode of Mario Kart.

In Mario Kart World, the unique spin on the traditional gameplay is that all tracks form a connected global setting. The Free Roam mode showcases this by enabling players to drive freely across this open world, but until now, we were unaware of what other activities could be done in this mode. Scattered throughout the open world are P-Switches, and activating one initiates a mission. These tasks assess players’ abilities through challenges such as gathering blue coins or navigating obstacles to reach a destination within a time frame. A press release hints at “many” missions for players to conquer. If players fail, they can rewind and make another attempt.

As a dedicated fan, I can share that Nintendo hasn’t spilled the beans about the rewards for completing missions yet, but they’ve given us a tantalizing hint about secret collectibles like medallions and hidden panels waiting to be discovered by players. The game also offers Free Roam mode, which supports online multiplayer, allowing us to traverse the world with our buddies and have fun together in photo mode. It remains to be seen if there will be multiplayer missions, but Nintendo has confirmed that we can always quickly teleport to our friends’ locations on the map. Multiplayer isn’t exclusive to Free Roam, as Battle Mode makes a comeback too!
