Nintendo has cleverly concealed the Mirror Mode within the Free Roam setting for Mario Kart World in an impressive fashion. Players can transform the open world by racing their vehicles into the stained-glass window of Princess Peach’s castle, located at the map’s center. However, there is a condition: Mirror Mode should have been previously unlocked through completing the Grand Prix and Knockout Tour Cups, in addition to meeting some other prerequisites.
According to IGN, an account on platform X named Ninjinaut demonstrated the Mirror Mode Easter egg in the Free Roam mode of Mario Kart World. The video clip shows Baby Rosalina leaping through a window, reminiscent of Super Mario 64’s method for navigating to new worlds. The screen transitions to white before revealing an upside-down Princess Peach. Following this, Baby Rosalina exits the window, and the open world is revealed in Mirror Mode.

Note that Free Roam can only be played solo, as players found out when Mario Kart World came out last week on Switch 2 that multiplayer co-op was not included in this mode. Additionally, it has been revealed that Xenoblade developer Monolith Soft contributed to the game’s development, which isn’t surprising given their previous work with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
If you’re aiming for an edge in the Mario Kart World, I have a few suggestions that might help you excel in races and Knockout Tournaments. One useful trick is the Boo item, which doesn’t penalize racers when they veer off-road.
