As a long-time fan of Marilyn Manson, it’s been a rollercoaster ride watching this saga unfold. The allegations against him have been shocking and heartbreaking for those of us who admired his music and artistry. However, as a supporter of justice and truth, I must say that the recent settlement in the defamation lawsuit between Manson and Evan Rachel Wood seems to be a step towards healing and closure.

In a recent settlement, musician Marilyn Manson (real name Brian Warner) has agreed to pay Evan Rachel Wood, who stars in “Westworld,” approximately $327,000 towards her legal expenses. This comes after Wood accused Manson of sexual abuse last year, leading him to allege defamation. The terms of the settlement were finalized on November 19th, as indicated by legal documents obtained by EbMaster.

In simpler terms, Marilyn Manson (whose real name is Brian Warner) filed a lawsuit against Ms. Wood for a publicity stunt, aiming to undermine the believability of his numerous accusers and boost his struggling career. However, this attempt to suppress and intimidate Ms. Wood was unsuccessful. As Michael J. Kump, an attorney for Wood, stated, the court rightfully deemed Warner’s claims baseless. The fact that Warner has now dropped his lawsuit and paid Ms. Wood the full award of approximately $327,000 as her legal fees only reinforces this judgment.

2022 court documents show that Warner accused co-defendant Illma Gore, who was described as an “on-again, off-again romantic partner,” of making false claims. Specifically, Gore allegedly stated that the musician had employed a minor in a music video and filmed the sexual assault of a minor. In their initial filing from March 2022, Warner’s legal team claimed that Gore had publicly branded the musician as a “rapist and abuser,” which they considered a harmful lie that has negatively impacted Warner’s thriving music, TV, and film career. The documents also suggest that Wood and Gore pretended to be an FBI agent by fabricating and disseminating a fake letter from the agent, in an attempt to create the impression that Warner’s accusers and their families were endangered, and that there was an ongoing federal investigation into Warner.

Following four years of waging a struggle during which he could uphold honesty, Brian has chosen to drop his remaining unresolved cases and appeals. This move signifies his desire to bring an end to this phase of his life, as stated by Howard King, Warner’s legal representative.

Following the filing of Manson’s defamation lawsuit, lawyers Shawn Holley, Katherine Kleindienst, and others from Kinsella Holley Iser Kump Steinsapir LLP (representing Wood) attempted to dismiss most of it using California’s anti-SLAPP law. This law allows for striking down complaints that arise from the exercise of free speech rights under the First Amendment. In 2023, the court granted their motion and ordered Warner to cover Wood’s legal fees soon after. After appealing the decision, Warner’s team seemed interested in resolving the lawsuit amicably, offering a portion of legal fees, a confidentiality agreement, and a mutually acceptable public statement from Wood. However, this settlement was rejected. Now, Warner has agreed to settle the lawsuit altogether and will pay $327,000.

2021 saw one of several women come forward accusing Warner of sexual abuse. Their relationship came to light in 2007 when she was only 19 and he was 38. They were engaged in 2010, but their relationship ended soon after. In a social media post at the time, the actor revealed: “Brian Warner, also known as Marilyn Manson, is my abuser. He began manipulating me when I was young and subjected me to years of abuse. I was brainwashed and controlled by him. I am no longer afraid of retaliation, slander, or blackmail. My goal is to expose this dangerous individual and call out the industries that have allowed him to continue, before he harms more people. I stand with the other victims who will no longer stay silent.
