For those curious about its mechanics, here’s a beginner’s guide to fishing in Manor Lords to help you dive right in.
How to unlock Fishing feature in Manor Lords
Fishing is a gameplay feature that is currently available via the experimental Beta Patch 0.7.987 for PC players. Anyone who has Manor Lords purchased and downloaded on Steam can participate. Unfortunately, this experimental patch is not currently available for those playing on Xbox consoles (Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S).
Additionally, it is strongly suggested that you take out any modifications from your game to ensure they don’t conflict with these beta characteristics.
To participate in the beta patch test, follow these steps:
- Open Steam
- Right-click on Manor Lords in your library
- Select ‘Properties’
- Go to the BETAS tab
- Enter the following password: veryNiceBasket
- Choose “pre_release” from the “Beta participation” drop-down list
- Wait for the game to update the files (if nothing happens, restart the Steam client)
- Launch the game
You’ll have a chance to test the game’s fresh fishing functionality, together with innovative features like Salt nodes and food spoilage, as well as improvements in graphics, lighting, and audio quality.
How to fish in Manor Lords
Fishing is a feature in Manor Lords that functions similarly to hunting and berry picking. Depending on where you start a new save file, a Fishing node will spawn in a random region on the world map. If you want access to it right away, simply restart a new save file until the node spawns in your starting region.
The node is often situated in a forested part of the region, resembling a sizable pond and identified by a symbol of a blue fish. To utilize it, you should construct a Fisherman’s Cabin, which can be accessed under the ‘Gathering’ section in your menu, located between the Forager’s Hut and the Apiary.

Based on my own gaming experiences, I find that these nodes are an indispensable addition to any well-rounded settlement setup.
Ensure there’s at least one family residing at your Fisherman’s Hut. Construct well-maintained paths, and establish either a Granary or Marketplace nearby for convenience. This way, you can utilize your catches to sustain the residents. Remember, food preservation is crucial to avoid spoilage. To minimize this issue, improve your storage facilities, specifically the Granaries, so they can better maintain your food supplies.
To ensure a steady supply of fish throughout the year, it’s essential to activate the “Winter Fishing” feature on your game interface, located on the left side of your development wheel. This enables your fishermen to drill holes in the frozen lake and harvest fish from beneath the ice during winter months. If you prefer, you can use your initial Development Point to activate this feature right away.
