Manny Jacinto Talks About Having All Of His Lines Cut From Top Gun: Maverick

As a huge fan of Manny Jacinto’s acting skills and his journey in Hollywood, I can’t help but feel a deep sense of respect for his resilience and perspective on the film industry. In the case of Top Gun: Maverick, it’s disappointing to learn that his screen time was drastically reduced, with all his lines cut from the final edit. However, as Manny himself put it, he wasn’t entirely surprised by this turn of events.

Manny Jacinto spoke with GQ about having every line he spoke in Top Gun: Maverick removed from the final cut. He acknowledged Tom Cruise’s leading role, stating that ultimately, the movie was made for Cruise. Jacinto expressed that this reduction of his screen presence and dialogue served as motivation for him as an actor.

I was pleasantly surprised to hear some fans expressing their concern over my diminished role in the movie. However, I didn’t find it surprising that my screen time got drastically reduced.

He shared that on set, there was an intuition that the film’s focus would shift towards other actors, with less attention given to their scenes. Yet, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity, as it allowed him to observe the intricacies of film production up close, witness Tom Cruise in action, and contribute to a significant franchise.

I believe it’s essential for us, as Asian Americans and people of color, to take charge and create our own narratives. We can’t rely on others to tell our stories for us. If we aspire to see larger-than-life tales represented, then we must be the ones to bring them to life.

Before Maverick’s launch, Jacinto shared with a Philippine news agency his eagerness for the project. He explained this enthusiasm stemmed from encountering other Filipinos in the Navy and Air Force during his military training. “It was significant for me to be able to stand in for them,” he stated, “and have their presence acknowledged.”

I’m thrilled about Jacinto’s newest creation, Star Wars: The Acolyte, now completed on Disney+. For a comprehensive analysis of its finale and any lingering mysteries, be sure to visit GameSpot.
