Manny Jacinto Didn’t Find His Top Gun: Maverick Fate ‘Shocking’

As a movie critic with a deep appreciation for the journeys and struggles of actors behind the silver screen, I can’t help but empathize with Manny Jacinto as he reflects on his experience being largely silenced in “Top Gun: Maverick.” It’s disheartening to see an actor put in such dedication and effort only to be left without a speaking role.

Manny Jacinto, who put in a lot of effort for his role in “Top Gun: Maverick” with months of flight training and daily gym sessions, was disappointed yet unsurprised when he saw that his character had minimal dialogue in the final cut. He mentioned that it seemed clear on set which scenes were getting more attention. Despite this, Jacinto remained grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a big franchise and learn from Tom Cruise. However, he joked about the possibility of being cut out of other projects like “The Acolyte” altogether. Fortunately for him, his scenes in “The Acolyte” were kept intact.

Jacinto shared how his time in “Top Gun” inspired him to spearhead his own projects. He expressed, “Tom Cruise writes stories for himself in the film, so it motivates us – Asian Americans, people of color – to do the same. We can’t rely on others; we need to create larger narratives ourselves.” Currently, he is working with Filipino writers and producers on new projects. Fans can anticipate his collaboration with Lindsay Lohan in “Freaky Friday 2,” and Jacinto still aims for roles in independent films like those from A24 or Neon, as well as joining popular franchises such as “Naruto” or “One Punch Man.” As long as he partners with individuals who value his talents, we’re excited.
