As a passionate admirer of compelling storytelling and authentic representations of human experiences, I find myself deeply captivated by the upcoming anthology series “Love at 310”. The creative minds behind this project, Joel Ruiz and Maria Madonna Tarrayo, are not only pushing boundaries but also tapping into relatable narratives that resonate with audiences on a profound level.
Joel Ruiz, a Filipino filmmaker, and Maria Madonna Tarrayo, a producer, are presenting their anthology series titled “Love at 310” at the Taiwan Creative Content Fest (TCCF). This unique series offers a personal glimpse into relationships, exploring them through tales centered around a Manila love motel.
Ruiz, who’s known for his film ‘How She Left Me’, which was a hit on Netflix, shares that every tale in ‘Love at 310’ draws inspiration from genuine experiences he’s encountered in life. He ponders, ‘What transpires between partners when they are bared emotionally, when there’s no place to conceal themselves?’
The show seeks to pioneer open discussions on sexuality within the context of Asian media, as Ruiz points out that Asian culture often shies away from this topic despite its significant role in relationships. “It’s crucial for us to discuss it openly and accept it,” Ruiz adds.
Tarrayo, head of UXS, a production company based in the Philippines, views this project as addressing a void in existing content. “There isn’t a series out there that delves into the gritty, truthful portrayal of love, sex, and relationships,” she remarks. “As a producer, I back stories that resonate with audiences on a personal level, that are genuine and universal. ‘Love at 310’ perfectly encapsulates this quality because the characters feel familiar, and their experiences echo ours. Just as we do, we become curious about their private lives and what goes on behind closed doors. I believe it’s high time we broke free from our reservations about sex and the realities associated with it.
The creative squad features acclaimed author Fatrick Tabada (“Chedeng and Apple”). We aim to start production during the second quarter of 2025, with a projected launch in the fourth quarter. At TCCF, we’re on the hunt for international co-production partners to make this anthology accessible to viewers around the world.
With a strong background in creating critically acclaimed movies such as “100” and “The Woman in the Septic Tank,” UXS boasts extensive expertise in various production aspects, spanning both domestic and global projects.
As a passionate cinephile, I eagerly look forward to finding the ideal collaborators to share this captivating tale with the world. This intriguing series delves deep into the multifaceted nature of love, revealing its terrifying, enchanting, grotesque, exhilarating, draining, and comical aspects.
“The series teaches us to confront these emotions and not be constrained by it,” adds Tarrayo.
