Lucasfilm has recently disclosed some familiar faces for the upcoming Star Wars film. At Star Wars Celebration Japan, fans got an early glimpse at clips from The Mandalorian and Grogu, offering a taste of what’s to come when the movie hits theaters on May 26, 2026.
In the initial sneak peeks of “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” plot specifics remain scarce, yet ScreenRant’s Molly Brizzell and James Hunt’s viewing has affirmed many previously whispered speculations. For instance, there seems to be a reappearance of a Razor Ship, the same model used by Din Djarin until its destruction in “The Mandalorian” season 2. Though a comprehensive trailer is likely forthcoming closer to the release date, we now have a good understanding of the characters set to return.
5. Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin
Pascal May Be Doing More Than Just Voicing the Character
At Star Wars Celebration 2025, I, as a movie critic, was thrilled to witness Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau revealing an unmasked image of Pedro Pascal adorned in the Mandalorian armor. This sneak peek suggests that our favorite bounty hunter will return to his suit for the first time since The Book of Boba Fett.
Initially, Pascal’s character, Din Djarin, transitioned into a predominantly voice role as the actor’s schedule grew more demanding. Nevertheless, the upcoming episodes of The Mandalorian and Grogu might offer us another heartwarming moment where Din Djarin removes his helmet once again.
In conversation with ScreenRant, Pedro Pascal remained tight-lipped about potential unmasking. However, he did express his excitement for The Mandalorian and Grogu, labeling it as one of the most thrilling adventure films.
I truly wish for the reveal to happen, and it will! I am well-versed in all the secrets, but I’d rather let you discover them yourself. That way, you can fully enjoy the mind-blowing surprises found in one of the most extraordinary adventure films ever created.
4. Grogu
The Baby is Growing Up
From the moment Baby Yoda, or Grogu as he’s affectionately known, made his debut on our screens in 2019, he has captured hearts everywhere. With his endearing coos and unquenchable appetite, he’s won over audiences. Yet, it’s his unwavering loyalty towards Din Djarin that truly makes Grogu an extraordinary character. Recently, at the Star Wars Celebration event, director Jon Favreau of The Mandalorian and Grogu showcased the Grogu puppet engaging in interactions with actors Pedro Pascal and Sigourney Weaver, leaving fans even more enamored with this beloved little creature.
At Star Wars Celebration 2025, I was thrilled to witness a more grown-up Grogu than the last time we met him in The Mandalorian season 3. In the trailer, it seemed that little Grogu had harnessed his Force abilities even further, disassembling a mouse droid and swimming effortlessly in water. Yet, amidst all these impressive advancements, one thing remained constant – Grogu’s insatiable appetite! He was still seen trying to get hold of food just as he always did.
3. Steve Blum as Zeb Orrelios
The Lasat Honor Guard is Back
Initially, Steve Blum lent his voice to the tough character Garazeb Orrelios in Star Wars Rebels, who soon gained a significant fan following. Beyond his rough exterior, Zeb is also very compassionate and loyal. Most recently, in The Mandalorian season 3, Zeb appeared live-action for the first time, making an appearance on the Adelphi base – the location where Din Djarin and Grogu will reside in The Mandalorian and Grogu. In Ahsoka’s season 1, Sabine Wren revealed that Zeb had been collaborating with the New Republic to train pilots for their air force.
As a die-hard Star Wars enthusiast, I was thrilled at D23 when they unveiled footage of The Mandalorian and Grogu, featuring Zeb alongside Din Djarin and Grogu. However, the latest footage shown at Star Wars Celebration depicted Din Djarin walking with the Lasat on what appears to be Adelphi Base. I’m intrigued about how significant a part Zeb might play in The Mandalorian and Grogu, as well as his connection to Sigourney Weaver’s character. Regardless, it’s fantastic to have Steve Blum reprising his role as Zeb and collaborating with other beloved Star Wars characters.
2. R5-D4
The Droid Returns From The Mandalorian Season 3
In the very first Star Wars film, released in 1977 (renamed A New Hope later), R5-D4 made an appearance as one of the droids Uncle Owen Lars was considering purchasing from the Jawas. Contrary to his limited role in the movie, R5 resurfaced in season 3 of The Mandalorian, where Peli Motto gifted him to Din Djarin. In this new adventure, R5 assisted Din Djarin with checking if the air on Mandalore could be safely breathed.
In the majority of season 3 of The Mandalorian, R5 exhibited an endearing fear, but managed to overcome it when faced with an Imperial mouse droid. During Star Wars Celebration 2025’s trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu, R5-D4 can be spotted in the background alongside a few BDX droids from Jedi: Fallen Order. It’s intriguing to see director Jon Favreau reintroduce these minor characters, although they probably won’t have significant roles. Given that R5-D4 is one of the few droids Din Djarin relies on, it’s plausible that if Din needs a droid, he may turn to R5 first.
1. Jeremy Allen White as Rotta The Hutt
The Bear Star is Set to Make His Star Wars Debut
It was quite surprising when it was revealed that actor Jeremy Allen White, known for his role in The Bear, is set to portray Rutta the Hutt, son of Jabba the Hutt, in The Mandalorian and Grogu. First introduced in the 2008 Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated film, Rutta was once kidnapped by Asajj Ventress but was later rescued by Anakin Skywalker and his new Padawan, Ahsoka Tano. They affectionately called him “Stinky.” It remains uncertain if Rutta will continue to be known as Stinky or what kind of role he’ll have in the upcoming film.
Upcoming Star Wars Films | Director |
---|---|
The Mandalorian and Grogu | Jon Favreau |
Star Wars: Starfighter | Shawn Levy |
Star Wars: New Jedi Order | Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy |
Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi | James Mangold |
Untitled Dave Filoni Film | Dave Filoni |
Untitled Taika Waititi Film | Taika Waititi |
In the popular series The Mandalorian featuring Grogu, there seems to have been a fleeting moment suggesting the character Rotta might be present, though the camera never provided a clear view. With Jeremy Allen White cast as a Hutt, it’s reasonable to assume this could be our initial sighting of Rutta, who seemed to be in a combat arena. Though Rutta is an unusual figure to reintroduce, fans are eager to see how his appearance ties into The Mandalorian and Grogu’s storyline, as well as future Star Wars titles.
