Manager Dan Spilo Dropped by Industry Entertainment, Clients Alan Ritchson and Kal Penn After Inappropriate Behavior on ‘Runner’ Set

Industry Entertainment co-founder Dan Spilo has been ousted by the company.

It’s been reported that Spilo was let go from the movie “Runner” filming following a Human Resources examination into inappropriate actions, which apparently involved instances of bullying and shouting at team members. Last week, he was asked to leave the production site located in Queensland, Australia, after the investigation.

The three partners left at Industry Entertainment issued a statement to EbMaster: ‘We’re dedicated to maintaining a workplace that’s secure and respectful. We’re actively investigating the recent claims of inappropriate behavior on the set of the movie ‘Runner’, concerning Dan Spilo. In light of this, we’ve asked him to leave our company, and he has consented, effective straight away.’

The message goes on to say, “It’s our firm stance and consistent approach that Industry Entertainment does not tolerate harassment, mistreatment, or improper behavior, regardless of one’s rank or length of service. We strive for a setting that is secure, respectful, and welcoming to all, without any exceptions. We understand the importance of cultivating an office environment where everyone’s well-being and dignity are valued.

Both Alan Ritchson, who plays Reacher, and actor Kal Penn decided to end their professional relationship with their former manager, Spilo, after the surfacing of the allegations against him.

Spilo acknowledged his actions and announced a break from work to prioritize his mental well-being. He admitted that he was warned about a potential breakdown but continued working, which was an error, as stated in a declaration to EbMaster. His behavior was unacceptable and foreign to him, and while there’s no justification, he is determined to investigate and rectify the personal matters that caused this situation. For 25 years, his focus has been on safeguarding, assisting, and guiding his clients, and though he doesn’t anticipate forgiveness, he hopes this incident does not overshadow his entire career. His current focus is on recovery and making the necessary improvements to become a better individual.

In the action movie titled “Runner,” Spilo was working as a producer alongside Ritchson and Owen Wilson. The film was directed by Scott Waugh, and it was an independently produced project. Its screenplay was penned by Tommy White and Miles Hubley based on their 2023 Black List script.

The production team comprises Todd Garner from Broken Road Productions, Mark Fasano of Nickel City Pictures, and Jeffrey Greenstein of A Higher Standard. Lauren Gennawey represents BrokenRoad as a producer, while Matthew Goldberg is the executive producer for Nickel City.

In the year 2019, Spilo participated in “Survivor: Island of the Idols.” However, he was eliminated from the competition following allegations made by a fellow contestant and a production team member about inappropriate physical contact.

Spilo is recognized for his role in the production of movies such as “Uglies,” “Seberg,” and “Van Wilder: The Ascent of Taj.

Initial reports about Spilo leaving Industry Entertainment were made public by The Hollywood Reporter.
