As someone who has spent countless hours immersed in the virtual world of video games, I can’t help but feel a profound sense of dismay and sadness upon reading this tragic story. The fact that a game, meant for entertainment and leisure, could lead to such a horrific event is truly heart-wrenching.

This article contains details some may find distressing.

20-year-old Milwaukee resident Jalin White faces two felony charges following allegations that he angrily hurled an infant against a wall due to his disappointing performance in a video game. Local authorities intervened on November 5 upon receiving a criminal complaint from Children’s Wisconsin, a pediatric hospital in the area.

According to the statement in the complaint, the defendant was engaged in a competitive game of NBA 2K. Later, it is alleged that he grew agitated while holding the baby, ultimately hurling the infant against the wall. Consequently, White faced charges for one count of felony child abuse and another for felony child neglect.

The young, eight-month-old child, whose connection to White remains unclear at present, reportedly sustained critical head and brain injuries that required multiple CPR sessions. Regrettably, medical experts predict the child won’t survive. Upon examining the victim, they found additional wounds such as a healed broken clavicle, implying the possibility of prior physical abuse before White’s altercation over the game.

According to the accusation, White presented various conflicting accounts of what happened to investigators, but upon being shown proof of the child’s injury, he admitted that he had thrown the child. He also reportedly told authorities, “I could hear the sound of the wall after I threw him.

The anger shown by White, as stated in the complaint, appears to have originated from his poor performance during the game. It’s alleged that he caused severe, potentially fatal harm to an unidentified baby at a point when he was trailing by two points in the fourth quarter of the match.

At present, White is detained under a $100,000 bail, and a provisional hearing has been set for November 15.
