Man pays professional climbers to get his out-of-reach passport so he can go on cruise

A man became an internet sensation when he hired professional climbers to get his passport back after he left it somewhere high up inside his house.

The Instagram post showed a townhouse being renovated where the stairs hadn’t been put in yet, making the upper floors impossible to reach.

He faced a real crisis when he discovered his passport was secured in a safe high up in the building, with his overseas cruise departing in just a few days.

Unable to access it any other way, the man placed an ad on Craigslist seeking experienced climbers to recover the document. Luckily, two climbers responded and showed up with all the necessary gear, effectively transforming the incomplete house into a climbing wall.

Professional climbers save man’s holiday

The man described what happened, explaining the error that caused the strange rescue and almost ruined his vacation.

The man explained he foolishly left his passport inside his townhouse and then had the stairs removed. Now, he’s preparing for a Caribbean cruise and realized he can’t leave the country without it. His wife was understandably frustrated, so he had to call in professional climbers to retrieve it from a couple of floors up.

The popular video depicted the instructors setting up an anchor at the front of the building’s staircase before climbing inside. As they moved between floors, they used radiators and windows to create additional secure points for their safety.

Once inside the bedroom, the burglar gathered the man’s backpack, an overnight bag, his driver’s license, and surprisingly, some of the homeowner’s wife’s dresses, before leaving.

Once the climbers were safely back on the ground, the homeowner paid them $150, offered them a celebratory drink, and surprisingly, offered discounted LASIK eye surgery. It was definitely a strange and memorable climbing job, and it all ended up on camera.

In the end, it may have been cheaper to just get a new passport, if there was time.
