Man of Steel writer reveals his favorite thing about James Gunn’s Superman

It turns out that the author behind Man of Steel has a strong appreciation for James Gunn’s portrayal of Superman, and there’s a particular character in it that he admires quite a bit.

Despite the end of the DCEU and the conclusion of the SnyderVerse with the director’s cut of Justice League, a dedicated group of fans have been comparing Gunn’s film to Snyder’s movies, despite their vastly different box office earnings.

In fact, Snyder and Gunn have a close friendship, as evident by their collaboration on a Rick & Morty episode that playfully mocked them both. They have consistently shown support towards one another.

David S. Goyer, who penned the script for 2013’s Man of Steel, is equally enthusiastic about the latest movie version, even though the new portrayal of Superman presents a marked contrast to its previous iteration.

In an interview with CinemaBlend for the premiere of The Sandman Season 2, Goyer shared his thoughts on Gunn’s interpretation of Superman.

He expressed his appreciation for it, saying, “I truly took a liking to it. Many people think that since I worked on The Dark Knight, I wouldn’t enjoy The Batman, but quite the contrary, I found myself genuinely enjoying it.

Each new generation receives its own interpretation of Superman. The movie ‘Man of Steel’ presented a significantly more gritty and realistic portrayal, and we find ourselves in a completely distinct era now. What I appreciate particularly about it is the slogan, “Kindness is rebellious.

Goyer collaborated on Batman Begins and assisted Christopher Nolan in crafting the storyline for the entire trilogy. He penned Man of Steel (also produced by Nolan) and despite these films having a more somber, rugged style, he remained captivated by Superman.

I find David Corenswet very attractive. I wouldn’t have expected it, but Krypto turned out to be charming.

After that, it seemed like Mr. Terrific was the standout performer, as we’ve developed him into a genuine character within the Justice Society alongside Geoff Johns. Consequently, I was overjoyed and found Mr. Terrific to be fantastic.

As a fellow fan, let me express my excitement! Just like me, James Goyer has penned down 51 issues of a comic that revolves around the Justice Society of America. And guess who’s one of them? Metamorpho! I can only imagine how fantastic it would be to see him in live action. It’s these kinds of risks that visionaries like James Gunn take, and I couldn’t be more grateful for it because I adore these unique, quirky, and lesser-known DC characters.
