Federal authorities assumed jurisdiction over a case in Detroit following an incident where a man who received a $100,000 gift from a YouTuber alleged that he was abducted, robbed, and abandoned, bound, in a charred vehicle.
The ATF has assumed control over an investigation that was previously managed by the Detroit police department. This case revolves around Curtis Dixon, a 60-year-old man, who was discovered restrained inside his SUV in the city’s east side last Monday. Regrettably, the vehicle had been torched.
In August, Dixon gained media attention after receiving a $100,000 donation from MD Motivator, a well-known YouTube personality recognized for acknowledging acts of kindness. Disguised as a visually impaired individual in need, the influencer was given money by Dixon, despite his own financial limitations.
From YouTube gift to kidnapping claims
Approximately a week and a half past, Dixon shared with authorities that he was enticed to a location close to Mt. Elliot and Nevada, where he was abducted, transported to several ATMs to withdraw money, assaulted, bound, and left inside his SUV which was later set on fire. Individuals nearby reported noticing him confined within the vehicle.
Despite some discrepancies in his story, authorities are considering the incident as a potential case of arson, abduction, and blackmail. According to reports by FOX 2, Dixon is temporarily residing at an unspecified location while the federal investigation proceeds.
It’s worth noting that MD Motivator’s acts of kindness in Detroit, Michigan, don’t stop at just one instance. As early as September, he partnered with the popular YouTuber IShowSpeed to generously gift a car to a less fortunate family.
Currently, Speed is embarked on a continuous 35-day journey across the United States, making stops in 25 distinct states throughout the nation.
