Man builds world’s smallest arcade machine and it’s actually playable

Someone has created a fully functional arcade machine that’s unbelievably small – it’s currently the smallest in the world! Despite its size, you can actually play games on it.

Kiran Patil, a 24-year-old aerospace engineer from Bangalore, India, has earned a Guinness World Record for building the world’s smallest arcade cabinet. The tiny cabinet is less than an inch tall!

Pocket-sized arcade runs Space Invaders

Patil created a remarkably small machine—measuring less than an inch in any direction—that’s smaller than a standard AA battery. It occupies about the same amount of space as a single letter key on a keyboard.

Even though it’s tiny, this device works just like a classic arcade machine. It has real, pressable buttons and can play the original Space Invaders game through emulation.

From a young age, Patil was fascinated by electronics. He spent years carefully planning and collecting extremely small parts to build a working machine within a tiny space, and officially documented his creation with Guinness World Records.

He got the idea after finding out what the world’s smallest arcade machine was and decided to try and build an even smaller one. He made a first version, but then had to put the project on hold due to work and school. He picked it up again in 2025.

On July 20, 2025, his design was officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s smallest arcade machine.

Miniature electronics projects can easily grow beyond their initial scope if not carefully planned. In this particular case, the goal was to create a working device within very limited size constraints, as Patil explained.

This isn’t the first time Patil has broken a world record. Back in 2019, he also earned a Guinness World Records title for creating the smallest drill that actually worked.
