Man arrested for stealing $10,000 of Switch games from libraries

A fellow’s pursuit of Nintendo Switch titles resulted in his imprisonment due to accusations of stealing approximately $10,000 worth of games from neighborhood libraries.

Back in 2025, I found myself slapped with an arrest warrant on June 17th, following accusations that I’d been swiping Nintendo Switch games valued at around $10,000 from libraries scattered across Marin County, California. The Sheriff’s Office of Marin County shared the news on their Facebook page, revealing that these burglaries had been going down in at least seven library branches since April. Quite a gaming spree, if you ask me!

Law enforcement suspects that the man deliberately chose places based on their collection of Nintendo Switch video games. Currently, he is dealing with twelve felony accusations, including several burglary cases and one for being in violation of his bail conditions.

Man steals hundreds of games from local libraries

Even though libraries may not typically be the go-to spot for gamers to find new releases, many library branches now provide a carefully chosen assortment of video games to draw in younger patrons. The upcoming launch of the Switch 2 could make libraries an even more attractive destination, as the console has experienced a significant surge in popularity, although it remains unclear if any of these new games are actually for the Switch 2.

The Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook that “it’s crucial to protect our libraries as they serve as cornerstones of the community, offering enjoyment for all.

Although the specific games stolen remain unclear, the $10,000 estimate implies a substantial number of them. Given that Nintendo Switch games usually cost around $40 to $60 each, it’s possible that more than 150 games might have been stolen.

To this point, it’s undetermined if the man intended to utilize or market the video games, and authorities haven’t verified yet if any of them were found.
