Malika Andrews Joins ESPN’s ‘WNBA Countdown’ as Studio Show Adds L.A. Edition (EXCLUSIVE)

ESPN’s Malika Andrews will be stepping into the role of a co-host for “WNBA Countdown” on their freshly based studio program in Los Angeles.

Andrews’ appointment coincides with ABC and ESPN setting up two studios for their pre-game show; one is the existing “WNBA Countdown” broadcast from Bristol, while the other will be based in Los Angeles.

On ABC’s channel, the show “WNBA Countdown” – hailing from Bristol – will showcase a familiar team: Elle Duncan (SportsCenter anchor and women’s basketball host), along with analysts Chiney Ogwumike and Andraya Carter.

In the meantime, ESPN’s “WNBA Countdown” program will be led from Los Angeles by Andrews and commentators Monica McNutt, Carolyn Peck, Ogwumike, and Carter.

During the upcoming episodes of ESPN’s “WNBA Countdown”, the show will be based out of Los Angeles, with Andrews and analysts Monica McNutt, Carolyn Peck, Ogwumike, and Carter leading the discussions.

During the 2022 WNBA playoffs, “WNBA Countdown” was introduced and is now used as a pre-game show throughout the entire regular season, playoffs, and finals.

On Sundays, starting this week, Maria Taylor is set to join the panel for “WNBA Countdown,” airing before the Brazil National Team versus Indiana Fever preseason game on ESPN at 3 PM Eastern Time. She’ll be working alongside Chiney Ogwumike and Elena Delle Donne during the show.

In her broadened position, Andrews will offer insights on various media outlets, enriching ESPN’s broadcast with breadth and impact. Additionally, she will highlight updates about the WNBA on “NBA Today” and “NBA Countdown.

As a die-hard movie fan, I’m excited to share that the action kicks off at 4 p.m. ET! This time, it’s not a film, but my favorite trio: Ryan Ruocco (the narrator), Rebecca Lobo (the critic with insights), and Holly Rowe (backstage reporter) are back on set for their 13th season together. Can’t wait to join them for the show!

During the 2019-20 season, Andrea Andrews first appeared on ESPN as a sideline reporter at the ESPN World of Sports Complex in Florida. Throughout the NBA Playoffs, she served as a sideline reporter, making her one of the youngest individuals to do so during a Conference Finals broadcast. In fact, when the NBA resumed its season after a four-month hiatus due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Andrea Andrews was among the first reporters on the scene at the league’s temporary Florida campus.

Before starting with ESPN in October 2018, Andrews had previously spent a year working as a reporter for the Chicago Tribune. Additionally, Andrews had served as a James Reston Reporting Fellow for one year within the sports section of The New York Times.

She is repped by CAA Sports and Jill Fritzo Public Relations.
