As a seasoned movie enthusiast with a soft spot for tales of Hollywood’s behind-the-scenes action, I find myself captivated by this new venture from Matt Smith and Dan Gedman – Highway 10. Their journey, from the heartland of Kansas City to the bustling streets of Los Angeles, echoes the very paths traversed by countless dreamers chasing their cinematic dreams.

Seasoned movie producer Matt Smith and acclaimed director-producer Dan Gedman of commercials and music videos have teamed up to establish Highway 10, a company that finances and produces films. The duo aims to create high-quality, director-led movies that are both cost-effective and commercially successful. Their ambition is to draw in top independent filmmakers capable of creating concept-driven films spanning various genres. Highway 10 will function in not one but two cities: Los Angeles and Kansas City.

The company’s name is connected to their shared geographical history – Smith and Gedman named it as a tribute to the road that took them from their hometown of Kansas City to their alma mater, the University of Kansas. Post-college, Smith embarked on his career at the Border Webb Chervin Silbermann Agency and Revolution Studios, eventually moving into executive roles at Sean Bailey’s Ideology Inc., Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes, Offspring Entertainment, and Akiva Goldsman’s Weed Road Pictures. He also served as head of production and development for Circle of Confusion. Spanning various budgets, Smith’s film producing journey encompasses studio blockbusters, small-budget Indies, and festival films. Among his works are Disney’s “Maleficent” franchise, MGM’s musical remake of “Valley Girl,” Netflix’s family adventure “Rim of The World,” the gonzo action movie “Mayhem,” two movies in the “Step Up” series, and Wayfarer Studios’ upcoming action-comedy “Code 3.

According to Smith, Dan and he are excited about collaborating on Highway 10. By leveraging our collective years of film production expertise and solid connections within the artistic network, we aim to create top-tier, cost-effective movies with broad audience appeal.

As a movie enthusiast, I’ve got roots in advertising before venturing into the thriving world of Outrider, previously known as Liquid 9 – a powerhouse production company based in the vibrant heart of Kansas City. In my creative journey, I’ve had the privilege to direct music videos that have earned MTV awards for artists like Kendrick Lamar, Tech N9ne, T-Pain, B.o.B, and many more. Beyond that, I’ve also helmed television commercials that bagged Cannes Lion accolades and produced video content for prestigious global brands.

According to Gedman, Highway 10 presents a thrilling chance for funding and producing captivating films that draw in top-notch actors and directors, as the entertainment world undergoes constant changes.

Highway 10 is about to unveil its debut movie soon. Meanwhile, Smith’s Electro Corduroy Entertainment label will carry on creating conventional studio films. Smith is represented by the agency Ziffren Brittenham.
