Malcolm in the Middle Revival: Familiar Faces Return and Shocking Casting Change!

The upcoming “Malcolm in the Middle” reboot features returning characters alongside a handful of fresh faces, but there’s also a significant shift in one key role.

It’s been confirmed that Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield will be back in their old roles as Francis and Reese for the revamp of the beloved sitcom on Disney+.

Rather than Erik Per Sullivan reprising his character Dewey, Caleb Ellsworth-Clark (“Fargo,” “The Expanse”) has been cast to play the part in the upcoming four-episode series produced by Disney Branded Television.

Moreover, Anthony Timpano (known for “Riverdale” and “Nancy Drew”), Vaughan Murrae (“Before I Change My Mind” and “The Way Home”), and Keeley Karsten (“The Fabelmans” and “Hunters”) are also joining the cast. Specifically, Anthony Timpano will portray Malcolm’s youngest brother Jamie, while Vaughan Murrae will take on the role of Malcolm’s youngest sibling Kelly. Lastly, Keeley Karsten will embody Malcolm’s daughter Leah in the production.

Previously announced, Frankie Muniz reprises his role as the title character, while Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek are set to reprise their roles as Hal and Lois respectively. Exclusively reported by EbMaster, Kiana Madeira will join the cast as Tristan, Malcolm’s girlfriend.

Ellsworth-Clark, Timpano, Murrae, and Karsten are all represented by different talent agencies: Integral Artists, The Characters Talent Agency, Oscars Abrams Zimel & Associates Inc., Brillstein Entertainment Partners, and Buchwald respectively.

Jamie first appeared on “Malcolm in the Middle” during its fourth season, contrastingly, the character of Kelly was only suggested earlier in the final episode when it became known that Hal and Lois were about to welcome their sixth child into the family.

Kelly is also characterized as the youngest child of Lois and Hal, who is independent, excels academically, and seems to be wiser than many members of her family. Leah, on the other hand, is Malcolm’s daughter and shares his sarcastic humor, impulsiveness, and remarkable intelligence. However, she stands out as being more sensitive and emotional compared to him.

It’s no shock that Sullivan didn’t rejoin the show, as he largely stepped away from acting after “Malcolm in the Middle” ended in 2006. His last acting role was in 2010 with the movie “Twelve.” He’s also been missing from past gatherings of the series cast throughout the years.

The television series ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ will soon start filming in Vancouver. For the upcoming episodes, the storyline revolves around Malcolm and his daughter getting caught up in the family’s whirlwind when Hal and Lois request Malcolm to attend their 40th wedding anniversary celebration.

Originally created by Linwood Boomer, he comes back as a writer and executive producer for the revival. Bryan Cranston, Tracy Katsky of KatCo Productions, Gail Berman, Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan, and Natalie Lehmann serve as executive producers. Ken Kwapis will direct all four episodes and also serves as an executive producer. Jimmy Simons and Laura Delahaye take on the roles of co-executive producers. This limited series is produced by 20th Television and New Regency.
