For the first time since 2006, we’ll be seeing fresh episodes of Malcolm in the Middle on Disney Plus. Although life remains unjust, it’s comforting to know that this reboot has finally addressed a perplexing enigma that had been lingering for quite some time.
The highly influential sitcom is now officially moving forward, bringing back most of its original cast members (excluding Erik Per Sullivan, who’s headed to Harvard). This includes Bryan Cranston from Breaking Bad playing Hal, and Frankie Muniz reprising his role as the central middle child.
The upcoming four-episode series doesn’t have a confirmed release date as of now, but it is anticipated to debut sometime in 2025. As per Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman, this new installment will be called “Malcolm in the Middle: Life Remains Unfair,” which is inspired by the original opening song lyrics.
Although specific storyline elements are kept secret, we can confirm that the story will revolve around a family gathering to celebrate Hal and Lois’ 40th wedding anniversary. Furthermore, this installment aims to address some lingering mysteries that have captivated viewers throughout the series.
Malcolm in the Middle reboot reveals Hal and Lois’ sixth child
Initially, the reboot has successfully solved one enigma: the true identity of Hal and Lois’ sixth child. The information provided about the cast indicates that their youngest child, Kelly, played by actor Vaughan Murrae, identifies as non-binary, just like the character they portray.

In the final episode of Malcolm in the Middle, Hal was looking forward to some personal space. But his tranquility was disrupted when Lois found out she was pregnant once more – a plot point left unresolved until now.
Kelly, being the youngest offspring of Lois and Hal, demonstrates independence, excels academically, and possesses a wisdom beyond her years, surpassing that of many family members. It would be intriguing to observe how the family dynamics evolve following her arrival.
Although we now have answers for one question, another remains unclear: what is the family’s actual last name? Many believe it could be “Wilkerson,” as hinted in the original script, but the show never officially verified it, making it an ongoing joke among fans that continues to stir discussions.
Taking advantage of this fresh start, we can finally clarify the long-standing surname enigma, and perhaps address some other remaining puzzles simultaneously.
