Major YouTube lag glitch is slowing down computers and freezing browsers

Are you finding that YouTube slows down your computer when you use it? Many people are reporting the same issue, and it appears to be a problem with YouTube itself.

Problems started appearing in late April 2026 when people began reporting that YouTube videos were buffering and webpages, especially in Firefox, were loading slowly.

Over the past week, reports of this problem have expanded to include browsers like Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome. Users now believe the issue isn’t with any particular browser, but with YouTube itself.

YouTube glitch possibly tied to subscribe, like, share buttons

The first widely reported issue with this problem appeared on Reddit on April 24th, when a user said YouTube videos were pausing and glitching after they updated their Firefox browser.

Several users reported that YouTube was causing performance issues, with one saying it maxed out their graphics card and crashed their browser. Another user found YouTube was using an unusually high amount of their computer’s processing power. These problems were happening on both Chrome and Edge browsers, and it appears YouTube is the source of the issue.

So, I was reading Tom’s Hardware, and it looks like YouTube’s action row – you know, all those like, subscribe, and share buttons under videos – might be causing some issues. Apparently, Mozilla’s Bugzilla is flagging it as a possible problem area.

According to conversations about Bugzilla, YouTube regularly verifies that its video buttons fit properly. If they don’t, the website attempts to hide one to create a tidier appearance.

This is where the issue begins. As Markus Strange pointed out on the Bugzilla discussion forum, this causes the website to get stuck in a never-ending cycle of requesting animations.

What is happening right now with Youtube playback?

Okay, so imagine this: the website keeps sending more and more requests, and they just pile up. It’s like it can’t keep up with itself! This quickly uses up all my computer’s memory, and everything starts to lag and slow down. Basically, the site is constantly trying to figure out how to display things, and it’s taking so much power that my computer starts to really struggle. It’s super frustrating when it happens mid-game!

YouTube hasn’t yet commented on the situation, but we’ve contacted TopMob for their perspective.

A funny bug is currently spreading on YouTube. Users noticed that the AI-generated voiceovers on a channel called ‘AI slop’ started glitching out and speaking nonsense, and it’s quickly going viral.
