As a seasoned analyst with over two decades of experience in the tech and financial industries, I have seen countless projects rise and fall, some due to unrealistic promises and unmet deadlines. The ongoing saga of Pi Network is a textbook example of this phenomenon.
TL;DR
- Pi Network extended its migration deadline to January 31, 2025, sparking frustration over repeated delays.
- Despite promises of a December roadmap update on the open mainnet, Pi Network developers remain silent, leaving the community skeptical about further progress.
Another Delay Instead of More Clarity
The contentious Pi Network, a cryptocurrency initiative that allows users to mine digital assets straight from their mobile phones, was first introduced over five years ago. Despite numerous advancements since then, its main network and native currency are still not in operation.
The widespread anticipation among the vast Pi Network user base has been met with disappointment, as they eagerly seek updates about significant milestones. Earlier in the year, the team behind the project announced that their primary objective is the debut of the Open Network, which would be initiated after users complete Know-Your-Customer (KYC) checks and transition to the mainnet during what’s called the Grace Period.
At first, individuals had until late September to complete the task, but subsequently, the deadline was extended to November 30th. Later on, it got changed to December 31st. The team announced this shift, stating that it would offer users a more extensive timeframe for securing their Pi.
Most recently, the developers behind the project announced another extension. “We’re extending both KYC and Mainnet Migration Grace Period deadlines to January 31, 2025, to help include more Pioneers and their Pi as we prepare for Open Network in Q1 2025,” the post on X reads.
Predictably, it didn’t come as a surprise to find that many community members were quite frustrated by the recent delay. Some even humorously suggested that the team should extend the grace period for a few more years due to the frequent monthly deadline extensions in the project.
Instead of monthly extensions, let’s stretch it until 2028. It’s doubtful that this will be launched imminently, as one X user suggested, perhaps after the bull run has ended.
Back in December, Pi Network announced that approximately 18 million users have finished Know-Your-Customer (KYC) checks, while around 8 million of these individuals have already transitioned to the mainnet. The developers also hinted at potentially launching the Open Network as soon as Q1 2025.
