Magic The Gathering’s Final Fantasy cards made $200M in a single day

In just one day, Magic: The Gathering’s eagerly awaited partnership with Final Fantasy shattered records by generating an astounding $200 million, marking it as the quickest and highest-grossing collection ever sold.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but marvel at the imaginative collaborations Magic: The Gathering (MTG) consistently orchestrates, particularly with sci-fi and steam punk racing themes. From renowned franchises like Bethesda’s Fallout series to Transformers, these crossovers have undeniably elevated our gaming experience on the tabletop. However, one recent partnership has left every other collaboration in the dust, and I can barely contain my excitement!

Ever since the initial whispers, enthusiasts of Final Fantasy couldn’t help but get excited about a potential collaboration with Magic: The Gathering. When it officially launched in stores on June 13, 2025, it shattered previous records set by Wizards of the Coast right from the start.

In just pre-orders themselves, Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks noted it as a record-breaker in Magic: The Gathering history. Recently disclosed sales data has shown even more impressive results. It appears that the collaboration between Final Fantasy and MTG generated an astounding $200 million in one day’s revenue.

MTG’s Final Fantasy collab makes $200M in a day

In a single night, the highly successful cross-over brought in $200 million for Wizards of the Coast, as reported by Cocks during Hasbro’s Q2 financial conference call.

To give a point of reference, he outlined that it required six whole months for MTG’s Lord of the Rings-inspired collection to achieve the same sales total.

Despite the production falling short of the required amount, it was successfully accomplished. In his words, “We simply weren’t able to produce enough,” Cocks stated. “It surpassed, significantly and by an enormous margin, any previous production cycle we have ever undertaken.

In a span of only two weeks, it’s claimed that this TCG release attracted a higher number of new players to card shops than any other Magic: The Gathering (MTG) set has managed over a 12-week period historically. This is particularly noteworthy considering Final Fantasy has its own official TCG with ongoing support, yet it still achieved this remarkable feat.

Next up for MTG is a standalone set called Edge of Eternities, launching on August 1st. Afterward, there are two further collaborations with significant prospects.

This September, you’ll find Spiderman swinging through the Trading Card Game, while Avatar: The Last Airbender joins in November. We’ll have to keep our fingers crossed to see if either manages to beat the excitement generated by the phenomenal Final Fantasy collection.
