Mafia: The Old Country Free Update Fleshes Out Sicily

After a few months of hints, the biggest update for Mafia: The Old Country is here, and it’s completely free!

The upcoming update, called “Free Ride,” will finally introduce features many players have been requesting. It’s designed to revitalize the experience of exploring 1900s Sicily and will be a great way to welcome back those who finished the main story.

Everything That Comes With The Old Country’s Free Update

Hangar 13 announced that the “Free Ride” update is coming out tomorrow, November 20th, so players can start enjoying it very soon!

Longtime fans might recognize this as a nod to the original Mafia’s “Free Ride Extreme,” but this updated version offers a fresh take. It introduces a series of new Challenges – separate from the main story – allowing players to explore the game world with greater freedom.

You can check its full teaser right below:

In a recent PlayStation Blog post, 2K Games content manager Peter Amato explained that the latest update significantly expands the world map, turning it into a central hub with lots of new things to do. Players can now enjoy new contacts, unlockable Hitching Posts, and a variety of activities they can complete at their own speed.

The game often uses locations you’ve already explored during the main story for combat challenges, but aims to make these revisits feel new and different. According to Amato, once you complete a story chapter and unlock a challenge in Free Ride, you’ll be able to experience familiar areas in unique ways.

This is similar to the original Mafia’s “Free Ride Extreme,” but with a few changes.

The game also includes fun extras like car and horse races, a sophisticated photo mode, and a long-requested classic difficulty setting. Players will find new weapons, outfits, and vehicles to use, plus a unique “Cinema Siciliano Mode” that reimagines the game as a different version of The Godfather.

The team is now including a first-person driving option, something they’ve always wanted in a Mafia game. “Free Ride” in The Old Country is the first time players will be able to experience this feature.

Finally, the studio hinted that the update might include new areas to explore, but players will have to find them on their own when it’s released. Now, I’m going to free up some space on my computer to get ready for tomorrow.
