Madrid’s Luminosa Venture Films Boards Hyped Trans-Media Animation Project ‘Hollow Flowers’ (EXCLUSIVE)

As a seasoned cinema enthusiast with over three decades of immersion in the ever-evolving world of film and animation, I find myself captivated by the innovative project that is “Hollow Flowers.” The fusion of traditional 2D, CG, stop-motion, and cut-out techniques, along with its anime-inspired aesthetics, promises a visually stunning journey through the dreams and memories of Kai.

Griselda Gonzalez Gentile’s production company, Luminosa Venture Films, has taken on the animated series “Blooming Shadows,” which was conceived by versatile artist and director Daniel Yepes.

“Hollow Flowers” has been added to Luminosa’s lineup, which already features “Ernesto Che Guevara, an Included Song,” a documentary examining the relevance of Che Guevara’s ideas in today’s world, and “The Beauty of the Moment,” a fiction film showing at this year’s Sanfic Industria Ibero-American Work in Progress sidebar.

At present, the “Hollow Flowers” collection is under production as part of an expansive dark fantasy animated venture, suitable for both teenagers and adults. This project will encompass a short film, a video game, and a comic book. The series itself consists of 20 episodes, each lasting approximately 15 minutes. Already, Yepes has unveiled a teaser trailer and a detailed outline, while actively seeking collaborative partners for the diverse formats involved.

The initial versions of “Hollow Flowers” have been widely showcased at global markets and festivals such as the Marché du Film, Ventana Sur, Fantastic Pavilion (Guadalajara), Weird Market, and numerous others. Moreover, a short film titled “Hollow Flowers” was victorious in the Unreal Engine Short Film Challenge back in 2022.

“Hollow Flowers” tells the tale of Kai, a young woman who abruptly finds herself as the world’s last inhabitant, with her residence being systematically eroded by towering darkness. As she navigates through her dreams and recollections, the girl embarks on a quest to unravel the mystery behind these events and restore her past life.

As a lifelong animation enthusiast, I am genuinely excited about this upcoming project that seamlessly combines traditional 2D, CG, stop-motion, and cut-out techniques – quite possibly more! The show’s anime-influenced aesthetics immediately caught my attention, as I have always been drawn to the unique blend of gritty, dystopian worlds and lush greenery in anime. The early artwork showcases a perfect balance between these elements, with an emphasis on intricate shadows that add depth and mystery to the scenes.

In the course of Kai’s journey, every dream or memory she encounters showcases a distinct artistic style and animation method, reflecting the emotions she experiences in that moment.

Located in Madrid, Luminosa Venture specializes in creating movies and shows intended for international audiences. These productions aim to break down cultural barriers and offer viewers a broader perspective of the world beyond their own neighborhoods. The company is innovative when it comes to adopting cutting-edge technologies, which makes “Hollow Flowers” an excellent addition to its collection.

As a movie buff and founder of Luminosa Venture, I’ve spent the last four years diving headfirst into innovative audiovisual production, venturing into virtual reality films, video games, and documentaries. Embracing new technologies has been a game-changer, expanding our creative horizons and resonating with younger audiences through contemporary themes, all while speaking their language.

“The concept of ‘Hollow Flowers’ is exceptionally innovative as it explores the diverse aspects of grief. We plan to transform this cross-media venture into multiple formats, such as an animated television series, a video game, and a full-length animated movie. At Luminosa Ventures Films, we are convinced that emerging technologies are broadening the scope of storytelling and enhancing our creative output. In line with our editorial approach, Hollow Flowers represents one such project,” she explained further.
