Today, Electronic Arts (EA) unveiled Madden NFL 26, marking a significant change in platform availability for the football game franchise, which hasn’t occurred in several years.
Starting in August, Madden NFL 26 will exclusively debut on existing console platforms and PC. After nearly five years since the launch of PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, EA has decided to phase out the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game. The first game in the series to hit PS4 and Xbox One was Madden NFL 25 in 2013, and every subsequent annual release had been available on those platforms until now.
Apart from being revealed earlier, it’s now confirmed that Madden NFL 26 will be the first game in the series to launch on Nintendo Switch 2. EA hinted at this during the console’s unveiling last month, and now we have official confirmation. Since its debut in 2012 with Madden NFL 13, a Madden game hasn’t been released on a Nintendo platform until now, making this shift noteworthy given that Madden is consistently one of the best-selling games annually.
This summer, College Football 26 – unveiled together with Madden NFL 26 – is scheduled to debut on July 10th, but it’s currently planned exclusively for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S platforms. It’s worth noting that this was also true for last year’s edition of the game.
The upcoming Madden NFL 26 will release on August 14 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. If you opt for the $100 Deluxe Edition, you’ll get early access to the game starting August 11. For those playing on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, a special $150 MVP Bundle is available, which includes the College Football 26 Deluxe Edition as well.
