Macaulay Culkin’s Emotional Reaction to Kieran’s Oscar Win: ‘I Cried’

At the Vanity Fair party following the 2025 Oscars (as reported by Entertainment Weekly), Macaulay Culkin shared an emotional moment: he shed tears when his younger brother Kieran Culkin was awarded the Oscar for best supporting actor. Interestingly, this was the only segment of the Oscars broadcast that Macaulay and his wife, actress Brenda Strong, chose to watch together.

When asked about watching the show, Culkin replied, ‘I just watched the Best Supporting Actor. That’s all I watched.’ He confessed, ‘It’s true, it’s true… I cried. And I said, ‘I’ll see you later.’

Macaulay Culkin clinched the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his outstanding portrayal in Jesse Eisenberg’s film “A Real Pain.” He was up against stiff competition from Yura Borisov (“Anora”), Edward Norton (“A Complete Unknown”) and Guy Pearce (“The Brutalist”). However, Culkin had become the clear favorite to win after securing the supporting actor category at numerous awards shows such as the Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice Awards, SAG Awards and BAFTAs throughout the season.

When questioned about whether they thought Kieran would win the Oscar, Strong replied confidently: “Indeed, it’s only fair to express that opinion.

Indeed, that’s correct,” Macaulay Culkin. “He was seated right at the front, in the aisle, and nearest to the staircase. It was impossible for anyone else to surpass him.

Macaulay and Kieran began their careers as young actors, featuring together in movies like “Home Alone”. It was during his Oscars acceptance speech that Kieran demonstrated affection for his family, particularly when he mentioned a heartwarming incident. This took place after he won the 2024 Emmy Award for best actor on HBO’s “Succession”. In an endearing moment, he asked his wife, Jazz Charton, to consider having a third child – a request made because she had promised him another kid if he won the Emmy, not expecting it at all.

Following the performance, he shared that she exclaimed, ‘Oh dear, I did say that!’ Culkin remarked. ‘That means I owe you another child,’ she added. To which he replied, ‘How about four?’ She responded, ‘I’ll give you four when you win an Oscar.’

In the crowd, Charton admitted that she had, in fact, made that commitment. “I haven’t mentioned it until now,” she added. “All I want to say to you, Jazz – my beloved, with your small doubts – is this: no expectations. I love you. I’m truly sorry for repeating this mistake, and let’s get moving on our plans for the children.
