M3GAN 3 Movie Story Hopes Addressed by Franchise Star: A Robot Rom-Com (Exclusive)

The original M3GAN, introducing us to our contemporary fearsome robotic character, was a chilling horror film. However, its sequel took a different route, transforming from terror to an all-out sci-fi action thriller. If there ever is a M3GAN 3, the actress who plays the titular robot character expresses her desire for it to be a heartwarming robot romantic comedy.

In an unexpected twist, M3GAN 2.0 deviated from its original genre when it unveiled Ivanna Sakhno’s malevolent character Amelia, who aimed to bring about global destruction. However, M3GAN was persuaded to act as a hero by Gemma (Allison Williams) and Cady (Violet McGraw), ultimately choosing to give up her own existence to save the world.

In an interview, TopMob’s Russ Milheim chatted with Jenna Davis, the voice behind M3GAN 2.0’s title character, about her ideas for the ideal genre shift in a potential third installment of the series.

Davis openly disclosed that she had conversations with director Gerard Johnstone, expressing her enthusiasm about the idea of M3GAN appearing in a romantic comedy. She also mentioned that this role could potentially reveal an unexplored aspect of herself. This hypothetical scenario would provoke an intriguing query: Could robots genuinely experience love?

Even if a third movie is made, Davis hinted that M3GAN could have a lasting impact in the horror genre. She expressed interest in revisiting this genre as well.

Expressing enthusiasm about a hypothetical encounter between M3GAN and Chucky in a romantic comedy context, Davis expressed her excitement, stating that such an interaction would be “extremely intriguing” and she is eager to explore this scenario.

You can find the full interview with Jenna Davis, star of M3GAN 2.0, located below. In this conversation, she discusses potential developments for M3GAN 3, explores M3GAN’s ongoing growth, and shares her enthusiasm about demonstrating her singing abilities in the film.

M3GAN 2.0 is now available to purchase digitally.

What If M3GAN 3.0 Was a Rom-Com?

“It’d Be Really Cool to See M3GAN In a Rom-Com.”

  • TopMob: “The first movie is, is a horror film. The second is basically a sci-fi action. So if a third movie were to materialize and continues to change and evolve that genre, what kind of adventure would you hypothetically want to see M3GAN go through next?”

In a jovial manner, Jenna Davis mentioned a conversation she had with director Gerard Johnstone and suggested, “It could be quite entertaining if M3GAN were to star in a romantic comedy!” She envisions the character possibly having a romantic interest and finds the idea intriguing. She believes that such a plot development would reveal an unexplored aspect of M3GAN’s personality. Curiously, she ponders, “Would it be possible for robots to experience love?

Could something like this actually occur? Is it feasible? To be honest, I’m not entirely certain. But if we were to venture into a different creative realm, I believe it could be quite enjoyable and might capture the essence of its campiness. Additionally, we could delve into various emotions that M3GAN may experience, or perhaps introduce elements that might surprise or unsettle her.

Since I’m unsure if she’d embrace the notion of falling in love, as she might, I sense a strong resistance from her. However, if we were to explore a different style or theme instead, I believe it could be an enjoyable experience for us both.

I appreciate the fact that the first movie showcases a lot of horror with her character, and I believe she holds a unique and memorable position in the horror genre. Many fans have admired her performance in these films. Consequently, I wouldn’t mind revisiting this theme to see what additional thrills she could encounter. However, ultimately, I trust Universal to decide on the next steps, so we’ll just have to wait and find out.

I enjoy how the first movie had a lot of horror elements featuring her character, and she has an iconic role in the horror genre that fans love. Since there could be more exciting adventures for her, I wouldn’t mind seeing another horror-themed movie. However, it’s up to Universal to decide, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

  • TopMob: “As someone who has brought M3GAN to life. I was wondering your opinion on something. You know, killer dolls are creepy. So if M3GAN were to ever go up against someone like Chucky, how do you think that would go down? Does M3GAN stand a chance? Does Chucky stand a chance?”

Davis: It’s great you mentioned that. If she were to encounter another villain, say Chucky or Annabelle, it would be absolutely thrilling for me and something I’d relish exploring.

It seems more realistic for Chucky to portray an authentic version of himself since he’s already engaged in a notable feud on Twitter and has had numerous social media exchanges, particularly in the first movie. I find the idea of examining their dynamic intriguing, though I don’t believe they would get along well.

It seems intriguing to me if they ever met. I think there might be a complex dynamic between them, perhaps a mix of affection and antagonism. frankly, I’d be thrilled to witness M3GAN and Chucky interacting. In essence, I share your enthusiasm for this potential encounter. It sounds like an exciting spectacle!

  • TopMob: “Maybe that’s the rom com, Is her and Chucky.”

As an eager movie enthusiast, I must admit, the prospect of that upcoming film sounds absolutely intriguing! Frankly, my interest is piqued and I’d love to give it a watch. However, whether or not others share this enthusiasm remains to be seen.

Will M3GAN Ever Be a Villain Again?

“I Don’t Think It Would Take a Lot of Convincing for M3GAN.”

  • TopMob: “Do you think that with all these changes and with where M3GAN is now, the so-called Hero, do you think there’s a world where she could revert to being a villain, or would they just need to change the context greatly for her to be that villain again?”

Jenna Davis: It seems to me that M3GAN wouldn’t require much persuasion… It’s often the case that one tends to be a reflection of their origins, and it didn’t appear that she was particularly distressed by the act of taking a few lives in the sequel.

It might not be too much to expect her to delve deeper into the horror genre again, but we’ll have to wait and see. I think Katie and Gemma might not respond favorably, but I sense there’s always that captivating, sinister allure about her character.

  • TopMob: “At the end of the movie, when it’s revealed that M3GAN is alive and she’s that paper clip. I was just curious, how long do you think she was hiding as that paper clip on the computer before going, ‘Oh, by the way, I’m here?'”

Davis suggested that it was possible she had been there for around a month or two, give or take. He felt there needed to be some time, but not an excessive amount, so as to allow for grieving and processing the events, after which she would reappear, indicating she wasn’t going anywhere just yet.

Earlier on, TopMob had conversations with the stars from the Chucky series before the launch of its third season. During these discussions, we inquired about their thoughts on a potential confrontation with M3GAN.

M3GAN 2.0 Star on the Titular Killer Robot’s Evolution in the Sequel

Jenna Davis Was Also Thrilled to be Able to Prove to the World That She Can Since

  • TopMob: “M3GAN is a robot of sorts, but she’s never devoid of personality. How do you work to approach that and make sure that she has personality while never forgetting that she is, in fact, an Android?”

Jenna Davis: In our work, we experimented significantly with tone, particularly when it comes to voiceovers or any project involving vocal performances. To ensure the dialogue is clear and understandable for viewers, I need to be especially creative. This was particularly true for the second film, as the character shifts between multiple bodies, speaks from the depths, and other unique situations occur.

To clearly identify her upon her return, I desired that there be no mistaking who she was, but we noticed she had grown and evolved. Given the passage of two years and the ongoing advancement of AI technology, I aimed to ensure that M3GAN mirrored this evolution, thus presenting an authentic portrayal of contemporary AI in our society.

Over the past two years, M3GAN has experienced significant growth, as evidenced by the deepened tone in her voice, suggesting a touch of maturity. This is common with technological advancements from companies like Apple, where new models are constantly being released.

In essence, she retained the charm, flair, and allure that fans adored from the initial movie. Essentially, if it isn’t broken, why fix it? So, when crafting M3GAN, I aimed to preserve those beloved characteristics while also hinting at some development. This way, viewers might observe a subtle shift in her demeanor, indicative of growth, but we ensured that the essence fans cherished remained intact.

  • TopMob: “Throughout this whole experience with this second movie, what would you say was your favorite thing you got to do as M3GAN, whether that was either a simple, specific conversational exchange or a personality quirk you added, that was something that you were able to do in this sequel that you didn’t do in the original.”

In the next movie, we opted for the song ‘This Woman’s Work.’ Previously, in the first film, they requested me to sing a lot, much like on Sesame Street. However, being involved in both singing and acting careers, I was always worried that people would perceive my singing abilities as limited because they often assume that’s all I can do.

In the first movie, I feared that my singing abilities might not be convincing to viewers. However, in the second film, they included authentic takes of me singing, allowing audiences to witness M3GAN’s vocal talents. It was a bit self-serving, but I found it fascinating how M3GAN’s character evolved into a better singer as her AI progressed, becoming more refined and advanced.

I found that moment truly enjoyable, and it’s fantastic to notice others appreciating the singing too, as it can be quite unusual and slightly spooky at times. Yet, I adore spontaneously breaking into song with her. That part is among my favorites.
