As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that I’ve never witnessed a more intriguing spectacle than Ludwig’s League of Legends journey. It’s like watching a gripping reality show, where every game is a cliffhanger, and the stakes are as high as a Silver-ranked player’s hopes and dreams.

The second season of Arcane has concluded, paving the way for Noxus’s 2025 season, featuring a fresh map and jungle creatures. Faker recently claimed his fifth championship. However, what’s truly captivating about League of Legends at this moment might be a Silver 2 player, Ludwig, who specializes in Fiddlesticks and dominates solo queue.

Ludwig is well-known for various accomplishments. He’s a prominent content creator on YouTube, and he participated in an enormous subathon on Twitch, nearing the 200k subscriber mark at a time when such monthly traffic was unheard of. Moreover, he has organized several gaming events, and collaborated with Charlie, better known as MoistCr1TiKaL, in esports endeavors.

Furthermore, engaging in speedrunning feats for difficult games such as Pogostuck and Jump King, along with being an accomplished Smash player, are significant factors contributing to Ludwig’s current status. He’s exceptionally skilled at video games, a fact evident throughout history. Nevertheless, League of Legends solo queue has proven to be his toughest opponent yet.

Despite the fact that the streamer is yet to master the game, his determination to conquer League of Legends might prove to be an excellent development for the game itself.

Ludwig is the best ad campaign LoL could have gotten

Riot cleverly attracts new players towards an older title such as League of Legends by introducing creative strategies like the Netflix series Arcane, spin-offs 2XKO, and numerous others, temporary modes to maintain player interest, frequent updates that adjust game dynamics, and rotating champions in and out of the popular meta. Essentially, League of Legends is a dynamic and vibrant platform.

Who knew that Ludwig being bad at League of Legends was the real advertising LoL needed?

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but express my feelings when MoistCr1TiKal declared that it was frustrating for him to watch Ludwig grapple with the game. While there might be an element of playful teasing towards his friend, this situation also mirrors a strategic marketing technique that businesses intentionally employ.

Have you ever come across an advertisement for a mobile game where the player seems to be making blatantly incorrect choices? This can be reminiscent of old-school League of Legends players who haven’t played in a while but spent countless hours mastering it. Watching someone consistently make mistakes stirs up a desire within you to revisit the game, make the right decisions, and prove your skills once again.

To be fair, Ludwig seems to be picking up League of Legends through what could be considered one of the most challenging methods. It appears he’s walking straight into the trap that likely snared numerous novice players.

Instead of focusing on lanes and last-hitting minions, Ludwig opts for the jungle role. Moreover, he primarily chooses mechanically simpler champions like Fiddlesticks and Amumu, avoiding the need to master complex characters. Consequently, his journey towards mastery has turned out to be a challenging and unconventional one.

It might seem like a good idea to portray simple characters in a role that doesn’t require mastering League of Legends’ intricate mechanics, but surprisingly, this isn’t always the case.

Starting on the wrong foot

Since the champions he plays are mechanically straightforward, it’s challenging for him to monitor his progress as a player because of this simplicity. Furthermore, lacking an understanding of laning strategies from the outset makes it extremely hard for him to decide when to intervene in different lanes.

As a gamer, I find myself frequently struggling to discern the correct choices, which often leaves me stuck at my current rank and experiencing wild swings of wins and losses without fully grasping the reasons behind them.

UPDATE: NVM THIS GAME SUCKS!

In his selection of champions and roles, Ludwig unintentionally limits himself. Mastering vision control and macro play on one’s own is challenging, and unfortunately, Ludwig’s main champions lack the ability to push towers effectively and carry games independently. This puts him in a disadvantaged position, especially considering he’s primarily matched with players of lower skill levels (Bronze/Silver). Essentially, he’s setting himself up for potential struggles.

He might not see any improvement without a coach or learning other roles, as his chosen champion lacks potential for growth and carry power. While it’s not impossible to progress with limited skills in this character, it will certainly be more challenging. His mechanical skill from excelling in other games doesn’t directly translate to playing Fiddlesticks passively and draining enemies until they expire.

In a nutshell, Ludwig appears to be in a situation where success is nearly impossible, unbeknownst to him, which could lead to demotivation due to the constant jokes about his game rank from peers within the gaming community. This predicament might make it challenging for him to keep pushing forward and avoid feeling disheartened.

Learning the game on your own is hard enough, but poor Ludwig has the world watching him struggle. However, in this struggle, thereā€™s an opportunity.

Clearing LoLā€™s toxic name

For an outsider’s view, the League of Legends community is often criticized for being particularly toxic within the gaming world. It’s not uncommon to hear jokes about League of Legends (LoL) players being a group of unpleasant winners who spend most of their time playing the game excessively.

While there’s a kernel of truth to it, many individuals generally take things easy and aim to triumph in their games. Frankly, it’s not as terrible as you might think; it’s just that the unpleasant encounters in solo queue tend to make a stronger impact than the enjoyable ones.

Yet, incidents similar to those between Tyler1 and Ludwig following their League of Legends match aren’t particularly flattering for the broader League of Legends community.

“I really enjoyed our League match, let’s do it again sometime! But honestly, I think you could use some improvement in your gameplay. In fact, among all the players I’ve encountered in my 30,000 games (and that includes playing against AI bots for about 5,000 times), you rank pretty low. Even the most basic beginner AI bots are better than you at their best.

As I’m telling you straight up, you’re just not cutting it and you’ve tarnished my good name, you absolute rot. Still, appreciate the 10k Bits, mate. (Said to Ludwig)

Lud handled it gracefully, yet I doubt such constant criticism is inspiring for a novice player. The solution lies in just one direction.

As Ludwig advances in rank and improves, it’s crucial that we acknowledge his efforts and progress equally. Showing that even experienced gamers face challenges with League of Legends (LoL) is valuable, but witnessing him overcome those obstacles and be rewarded for his perseverance would make a fitting conclusion to his LoL journey.

Perhaps he doesn’t stop there, perhaps he keeps on fostering the community, aiming for increased participation within the gaming world and organizing events. I remain convinced that co-streamers and content creators represent the future of League of Legends and esports in general, and Ludwig seems to be an ideal candidate to fully immerse himself in this role as a consistent figurehead.

If youā€™re reading this Ludwig, Iā€™ve got one thing to say: Donā€™t give up.
