Lucky Number Boards Quentin Dupieux’s ‘The Piano Accident’ From ‘Beating Hearts’ Producer, Starring Adèle Exarchopoulos as Amoral Social Media Star (EXCLUSIVE)

Based in Paris, Lucky Number has purchased “The Piano Accident,” the newest movie by the busy French filmmaker Quentin Dupieux, who debuted his film “The Second Act” at the Cannes Film Festival last year.

14th film directed by Dupieux, titled “The Piano Mishap,” boasts an illustrious cast that includes Adèle Exarchopoulos, known for her roles in “Blue Is the Warmest Color” and “Beating Hearts,” Jérôme Commandeur, Sandrine Kimberlain from “The Divine Sarah Bernhardt,” and Karim Leklou from “Vincent Must Die.” This movie is being produced by renowned French producer Hugo Sélignac at Chi-Fou-Mi Productions, a subsidiary of Mediawan. Last year, this same production company was behind one of France’s highest grossing French films of 2024, “Beating Hearts.

The story critiques internet fame and social media influencers, focusing on Magalie, a morally questionable online celebrity who amasses wealth by sharing sensational content online. Following an accident while filming one of her videos, Magalie secludes herself in the mountains with Patrick, her assistant, for some rest. However, when a journalist threatens to expose damaging secrets, Magalie’s life unravels.

Just like many movies directed by Dupieux, “The Piano Accident” is set to combine the wacky humor of absurdist comedy with the distinct qualities of various film genres.

Over the past 18 months, the director has launched three movies – “The Piano Accident,” “Daaaaaali!”, and “Yannick” – with each drawing more than 400,000 cinema-goers in France.

Kickstarting its global distribution, Lucky Number begins by showcasing a special promotional preview at the Cannes Film Market. The French distributor, Diaphana, who has collaborated with the filmmaker on his previous eight projects, will launch “The Piano Accident” in France.

Lucky Number is excited to share Dupieux’s newest creation with viewers – an innovative, offbeat tale. We are proud to host this film that not only amuses but also provides a relevant, incisive critique of internet fame and the turbulence of consuming content in the digital era,” Lucky Number stated.
