Lucasfilm Just Removed 1 Key Scene from The Mandalorian & Grogu’s New Trailer

The trailer for The Mandalorian & Grogu has been slightly altered, with the version shown in movie theaters differing from the one released online. This film is arguably the most significant Star Wars project since The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. Its performance in theaters is crucial for the future of Star Wars films, and Disney and Lucasfilm are working hard to make sure it’s a success.

Recently, three scenes from the trailer for The Mandalorian & Grogu were taken out and swapped with new footage. This updated trailer was shown to audiences attending special previews of Pixar’s new movie, Hoppers.

The trailer you see in movie theaters is largely the same as the one online, but Disney and Lucasfilm swapped out three scenes. This suggests a slightly different version will only be available for moviegoers.

In the online trailer, around 37 seconds in, Pedro Pascal’s character, Din Djarin, enters a large room and uses the flamethrower on his wrist to defeat two snowtroopers.

The trailer shown before Hoppers now features a different scene: Mando destroying an AT-AT. The AT-AT explodes, and Mando flies off. Afterwards, seemingly back on the Razor Crest, Din Djarin asks Grogu, “Are you okay?” Grogu then sneezes or coughs.

The new theatrical trailer includes a line where Mando asks Grogu if he’s okay, which wasn’t present in the previously released online trailer, effectively adding new dialogue.

At the 0:51 mark of the online trailer, a scene showing BX droids running outside a building was altered. The theatrical trailer now features two shots of large turrets in that same location – it seems these turrets are on the same planet as where the droids were originally seen.

About one minute and thirty-seven seconds into the online trailer, you’ll see a group of stormtroopers riding on a speeder. The speeder crashes, and the stormtroopers are thrown off.

The official trailer doesn’t show the stormtroopers or the speeder bike. Instead, it features a brief scene of droids being destroyed by an unidentified flying vehicle.

Everything else in the trailer, besides those three adjustments, is identical to what was shown before the movie Hoppers.

It’s not yet known why Disney and Lucasfilm created a separate trailer for cinemas, or if this new version – which includes additional footage – will become the standard trailer shown before all films.

It seemed likely the trailer edits were made to reduce intense scenes, given that Hoppers is aimed at kids. While there’s still destruction of robots and an explosion, the trailer avoids showing any violence directed at people.

A trailer for The Mandalorian & Grogu is playing before some movies in theaters. Fans are wondering if the version shown before Hoppers will also appear before other films, or if it was a special preview just for that showing and the upcoming Pixar movie.

Star Wars’ Strategic Mandalorian & Grogu Marketing Campaign

The recent trailer for Mandalorian & Grogu seems specifically designed to appeal to fans of Hoppers, and that could boost the movie’s success in theaters. Compared to the first trailer, this new version is less violent and features more scenes with Grogu.

Adjusting the movie trailer to focus less on intense action and more on the character Grogu might attract more children and encourage their parents to take them to see the film.

Let’s face it: a dramatic explosion, like an AT-AT going down, is much more exciting for kids than just seeing Mando shoot some stormtroopers. Plus, even a quick glimpse of Grogu – even if he’s not feeling well – is a good thing, because kids adore that little character, even if they aren’t familiar with Star Wars.

Large, impressive towers would probably fascinate children, but simply seeing a few robots move around wouldn’t have the same effect.

The recent edits to the Mandalorian & Grogu trailer might be Disney and Lucasfilm’s attempt to make it more family-friendly. This could boost ticket sales and ultimately lead to a more successful movie release. If the film performs well, Disney might consider making another Star Wars trilogy in the future.
