Luca Guadagnino to Direct New ‘American Psycho’ Film at Lionsgate

As a film enthusiast with a penchant for unique interpretations and a deep appreciation for the works of Luca Guadagnino, I am positively ecstatic about his upcoming project! With a career that spans from “I Am Love” to “Call Me By Your Name,” it’s clear that Guadagnino has an extraordinary ability to bring stories to life in a way that resonates deeply with audiences.

Director Luca Guadagnino is close to reaching an agreement on a fresh adaptation of “American Psycho” written by Bret Easton Ellis, with Lionsgate.

The upcoming movie, penned by Scott Z. Burns, won’t serve as a reboot of the 2000 film, instead, it’ll be an entirely fresh interpretation based on Ellis’s book.

The movie initially based on the story, which was originally written for the big screen by Mary Harron and Guinevere Turner, was directed by Mary Harron and featured Christian Bale as the main star.

The upcoming Lionsgate movie is slated for production by Frenesy Films, with Sam Pressman, son of the original adaptation’s producer Edward R. Pressman, serving as executive producer via his firm Pressman Film.

Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chairman Adam Fogelson expressed excitement about bringing on board another top-tier director for our upcoming projects. Luca, known for his artistic genius, is an ideal choice to bring a fresh perspective and unique take on this well-known and influential intellectual property.

Guadagnino’s latest movie, “Challengers,” featuring Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O’Connor, debuted at the top of the box office. His upcoming film, “Queer,” starring Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey, is set to be released by A24 on Nov 27th.

As a passionate film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that I, the director, am immersed in the post-production phase of the gripping movie titled “After the Hunt,” featuring the talented Julia Roberts. My past works include “I Am Love,” “Suspiria,” “Bones and All,” “A Bigger Splash” and the critically acclaimed “Call Me By Your Name.

Recently, Burns has produced the Apple TV+ miniseries titled “Extrapolations.” Among his notable works in film screenwriting are “The Report,” “Side Effects,” and “The Bourne Ultimatum.

It’s been revealed more recently that the production of “Thumblite” series is being developed by Burns, with Netflix and Media Res, and Rosamund Pike set to take on the leading role.

I’m fortunate to be managed by the esteemed agencies of CAA, Range Media Partners, and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman, Smelkinson & Christopher. On the other hand, Burns is represented by UTA, Range Media Partners, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman Wertheimer Mandelbaum Morris Bernstein Trattner Auerbach Hynick Jaime LeVine Sample & Klein. Quite an impressive roster of representation, wouldn’t you agree?

Deadline was first to report the news.
