As a relationship coach with decades of experience under my belt, I must say it warms my heart to see ex-couples like Cat and Freddie finding peace as friends. It takes maturity and understanding to return gifts like the earrings, and though I may not have been as gracious in similar situations, I appreciate their growth. After all, every relationship, even if it doesn’t last forever, offers lessons that can help us grow. And let me tell you, watching Cat cry over her own crying montage was a hilarious spectacle, much like a cat chasing its tail!
This week in the U.K. has been quite emotional with some exciting developments. Firstly, there was the intriguing, almost unimaginable hint of an Oasis reunion. Then, we’ve witnessed a heart-stirring reunion on “Love Is Blind: UK“. This first season has been exceptional, and it ended appropriately with a romantic toast, heartwarming couple recaps, and intense personal dynamics that could make the Gallagher brothers squirm. (Admittedly, even the Gallagher brothers might find this less intense, but it certainly leaves me feeling uneasy!)
Intrigued by the lively dynamics of the reunion episodes for the American version of “Love Is Blind,” I initially questioned whether the British edition could match the intensity. However, hosts Matt and Emma Willis seemed more than capable of handling the task. For an hour, they skillfully delved into the couples’ past moments, stirring up the drama and bouncing it between the participants as well as the “Pod Squad” audience on stage with effortless charm. We had our share of laughter, tears… and surprisingly, we learned that Ollie might be secretly dating a cast member other than his pod fiancée, Demi. What’s going on there? It’s like metal wine glasses are being shaken together!
It seems that Demi initially said “I don’t for now” instead of going through with the wedding, but later it turned out to be “I don’t, full stop.” Despite this change in their relationship status, there appears to be a positive atmosphere between them. Ollie has been standing up against the idea that Demi isn’t attractive enough for him, stating that he’s always dated women similar to Demi and not like Cat. This is quite empowering, Ollie! I should probably talk this over with my therapist instead of here on the open internet, but watching these two discuss their reasons for not working out has made me hopeful that they might reconcile someday. However, things took a surprising turn when Matt and Emma asked Ollie and Sharlotte if they’re dating.
Some of us might recall that Ollie was really into Sharlotte at the reunion cocktail mixer, and apparently, they’ve kept the party going since then. While Ollie clarified that he didn’t jump straight into dating Sharlotte after the show, Sharlotte offered one of the weirdest explanations of all time to both her hosts and a very curious but supportive Demi: “I don’t think I could have got through the last few weeks, having to watch what I’ve watched, without him as the perfect support,” she said. “… It remains complicated, but yeah, we’re in a good spot.” Huh?
Over the last few weeks, what has left Sharlotte feeling distressed? It seems she might be referring to the relationship between Ollie and Demi, her reduced screen time, or the unsettling character “Sam from London.” To make matters more confusing, Ollie added “Watch this space” after that cryptic statement. Unfortunately, brother, if Demi isn’t involved, I won’t be tuning in.
Moving on from discussing “Sam from London,” let’s delve into the predicament at hand instead. Admit it, I was taken aback by the fact that Nicole and Benaiah are still a couple, but upon seeing their adorable first-date reactions in that touching video, I understand why their co-stars rooted for them. However, during his stage appearance, Ben couldn’t help but bring up the past when he mentioned how Nicole picked Sam over him. Before our hosts invited Sam onto the stage, Ben made a point to compliment Nicole on her beauty, particularly her eyes – a nod to Sam’s joke about her “boring brown” eyes during their face-to-face encounter. It appears that Benaiah feels responsible for Nicole initially choosing Sam in the pods, and I can only hope that they don’t revisit his name after this reunion.
Matt and Emma gave Sam numerous chances to make amends, yet he mishandled each instance. When questioned about his concern regarding not being able to pick up Nicole, Sam claimed he didn’t intend to cause harm with his remark but neglected to acknowledge the offensive undertones. On the matter of telling Nicole “I think I love you” shortly after proposing marriage, he stated that he genuinely meant to express he was falling in love with her, as if that made it any better. In a chivalrous tone, he declared, “For me, love is significant,” which leads one to wonder, if love is so important, then why propose to someone you might not even be in love with? Demi’s shout-out, echoing everyone’s thoughts, was, “Sam, please apologize to Nicole!” A Greek chorus can add depth to any reality show. Sam’s ego may have taken a hit this season, but if it brings him any comfort, he will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the most formidable villains in LIB‘s history.
Even though Demi’s rebuke of Sam was quite fulfilling, this episode left me utterly stunned when I discovered that my favorite couple, Sabrina and Steven, have broken up. And just like Jennifer Lawrence in that heartbreaking GIF, I found myself asking incredulously, “What on earth do you mean?”
It’s clear now that their plans for living were not as aligned as Sabrina suggested last week, with Steven expressing his preference for London to producers while praising Belfast to her. Despite their differences, they seem to have strong disagreements on most aspects of their split. Sabrina has compiled a detailed list of unreciprocated gestures and compromises she made, even going as far as a £70 grocery shopping trip. Although Steven denies it, he hasn’t provided any specific counterpoints. It’s concerning that she visited him seven times while he only went to see her twice, but what’s even more alarming is the last-minute cancellation of his Christmas visit to Belfast. He attempted to explain the reasons for this, but they fell short given it was Christmas. However, I must admit, it shows a level of British politeness that Matt and Emma ended their relationship before these two could escalate into a heated argument. Such behavior wouldn’t be unusual in the U.S., as we tend to be more vocal about our disagreements.
In summary, Steven left a strong impression on me when he confessed that he had watched the initial four episodes of this third season not once, but three times, tearing up each time. Their affection was undeniably genuine, even though it ultimately didn’t endure.
It’s possible that Steven and Sabrina stunned everyone this season, but I suspect no one is shocked by the news that Freddie and Cat have broken up. In a lighter note, it seems these two have found solace in friendship, and it might be time for them to approach the charming funeral director! Joking aside, it’s heartening to see they’ve managed to reconcile as friends. Cat reportedly returned the earrings Freddie gave her before their split, an action I agree with but wonder if I would have been as gracious about it. Perhaps this is a way for her to get back at him for all the times he criticized her during their relationship? However, despite the break-up, they appear to have learned valuable lessons from each other, which isn’t insignificant. And let’s not forget the amusing scene where Cat cried over a montage of herself crying – it seems Kleenex might be considering them for product placement!
It’s unfortunately not surprising that Maria and Tom have split due to their conflicting beliefs. It seems that love alone, along with lipstick marks, is not enough to sustain a marriage. To his defense, however, Tom regretted the harsh tone he used when expressing his concerns about Maria, particularly his statement suggesting that he wanted daughters who could “contribute” to a marriage, which seemed to belittle Maria and traditional women in her Muslim family. Maria was rightfully angry when she heard these comments and felt they were indirectly disrespectful towards her family. In my opinion, the comment was quite straightforward! Maria clarified that she never expected a man to financially support her, causing me to question if the show may have portrayed her in an unfair light with its editing. I’d say “Fairness for Maria,” but I believe she fought for it herself during the interview.
To put it simply, let’s round off by acknowledging that Jasmine and Bobby may not get as much attention, but they are truly exceptional. Their marriage is the best year of his life, a claim I find convincing, especially given his living situation seemed like a desperate call for help, from the Murphy bed to the multipurpose pool table. The fact she gifted him a T-shirt adorned with her image for Christmas and her mom now fully approves of him adds to their charm. They’re trying for kids, and when they do have children, those kids will be fortunate to witness a genuine TV romance. I hope future seasons of ‘Love Is Blind: UK’ can produce a couple as captivating, passionate, and well-suited as Jasmine and Bobby.
In essence, “Love Is Blind: UK” stands out as the pinnacle of the series. The majority of its cast was a harmonious mix of mature and genuine individuals, which amplified the emotional impact of their tumultuous breakups and intense reunions. Similar to other hosts of “Love Is Blind”, Emma and Matt skillfully stirred the pot throughout the season, but this reunion truly highlighted their prowess. Unlike “Love Is Blind: Mexico”, where couples waited on stage for a light to disclose their relationship status, this episode was free of gimmicks – possibly because the producers could already see the authenticity in the couples. Most other international versions of “Love Is Blind” have only produced one season, with “Love Is Blind: Brazil” being the exception. Here’s hoping that this series is just beginning its journey.

Could anything be more heartwarming than Demi always having a photograph of her parents tucked in her space journal? Honestly, it made me choke up inside.
As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but wonder about the truth behind what transpired between Steven and Sabrina. However, when she said to him, “You talk a lot, but you’re not a man who keeps his word,” it was a line so poignant, it could easily be embroidered on an Etsy piece.
Dear Netflix, if you happen to be reading this, kindly consider casting Freddie on ‘Perfect Match’! (By the way, don’t forget about Maria as well. She’s hilarious and I believe she’d bring a unique energy to the villa that we can’t afford to miss.)
