On Friday, a judge in Los Angeles lessened the life imprisonment terms for Eric and Lyle Menendez, offering the siblings a chance at release from prison, where they have been since 1989 following their conviction of murdering their parents. This is based on reports from Associated Press.
Judge Michael Jesic of the Los Angeles County Superior Court has proposed a modification to the Menendez brothers’ initial sentences of life imprisonment without parole, changing it to 50 years to life in prison. This adjustment becomes possible due to the fact that they were under 26 years old when they committed their crime, making them eligible for parole under California’s Juvenile Offender law. Nevertheless, the brothers must still secure approval from the state parole board before they can be released.
