Prime Video is creating a TV series based on the popular Webtoon comic Lore Olympus. Created by Rachel Smythe, the comic reimagines the classic Greek myth of Persephone and Hades with a modern twist. It first appeared on Smythe’s Tumblr in 2017 before moving to Webtoon, where it ran for three seasons and 280 episodes until 2024. Lore Olympus is Webtoon’s most-read comic and has received numerous awards, including two Eisner Awards, two Harvey Awards, and two Ringo Awards. Fans have been eagerly awaiting this television adaptation.
Amazon’s Prime Video has greenlit a series based on the popular webcomic Lore Olympus, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. The show will be a collaboration between Webtoon Productions and The Jim Henson Company, who initially started working on an animated adaptation in October 2019. Julia Cooperman, known for her work on shows like Colony and The Winchesters, will lead the project as showrunner. She shared a statement saying:
I’m incredibly excited to be working with Prime Video, The Jim Henson Company, and Webtoon to bring Rachel Smythe’s popular web comic, Lore Olympus, to life as a series. I’ve always loved Greek mythology, from reading about it as a child to studying it in college. Lore Olympus reminded me how powerful and relevant these ancient stories still are today. We’re eager to share this fresh, spirited, and modern take on the story of Persephone and Hades with both new and existing fans.

There’s no confirmed release date for Lore Olympus, and considering how long animation takes, it could be a couple of years before it arrives. Along with Lore Olympus‘s focus on Greek gods, and Prime Video’s live-action God of War series being based on Norse mythology, it looks like Prime Video is planning to release several shows based on different mythologies in the coming years.
As a huge fan of Lore Olympus, I was so excited to hear the news! Webtoon’s David Madden explained that the series has really captured people’s hearts with its beautiful art, amazing story, and characters we all adore. He believes Lore Olympus will be a story people enjoy for years to come, and this new animated series on Prime Video is going to let even more fans experience it. It sounds like Webtoon is teaming up with some incredible creators at The Jim Henson Company and showrunner Julia Cooperman to make something truly special, and they’re planning to launch it in 2026 – I can’t wait!
As a critic, I’ve been watching Prime Video really double down on adult animation lately, and it’s paying off. They already had the massive success of Invincible, with season four still a ways off in 2026, and the incredibly popular Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss – that whole ‘Hellaverse’ is a huge draw. Hazbin Hotel just wrapped up its second season last November, proving its staying power. And let’s not forget the Critical Role adaptations, The Adventures of Vox Machina and The Mighty Nein. So, when I heard Prime Video was adding Lore Olympus to the mix, it made perfect sense. Melissa Wolfe, who’s heading up animation at Amazon MGM Studios, clearly sees the potential, and honestly, so do I.
As a huge animation fan, I’m really excited about Lore Olympus coming to Prime Video! It totally reimagines Greek mythology in a way that feels fresh and modern, and I think it’ll appeal to a whole new audience. The creator, Julia, had such a clear vision, and combined with Rachel Smythe’s amazing original webcomic and the talents of Webtoon Productions and The Jim Henson Company, it’s a fantastic addition to Prime Video’s growing collection of animated shows.
