Lord Of The Rings Star Says Franchise Movies Are Predictable And Not Well-Written

As a huge fan of Viggo Mortensen’s acting, I deeply respect his approach to choosing roles and his honesty about why he hasn’t been part of any major franchise films since The Lord of the Rings. His dedication to finding interesting stories and characters that resonate with him is commendable.

Viggo Mortensen, famed actor from “The Lord of the Rings” films, steered clear of franchise productions after his tenure in the blockbuster series. He shared with Vanity Fair that while he holds no grudge against such movies, he finds them overly formulaic and poorly crafted, preferring to focus on more complex projects instead.

He expressed to Varity that he isn’t particular about genres or budgets when considering projects. Instead, he focuses on compelling stories: “The genre or budget doesn’t make a difference to me. It’s all about the story. I won’t take on a film simply because a certain director is involved. My priority is always the character and if I believe I am suitable for it.”

As a gamer, I’d put it this way: I’ve had some amazing experiences in the past with iconic characters, but when it comes to joining another franchise, I’m open-minded. However, for me to jump on board, there needs to be an unforgettable role that truly resonates with me. So far, nothing has come close since my journey in The Lord of the Rings.

He remarked that franchise films aren’t typically excellent in his opinion. In fact, he found them rather unoriginal and foreseeable.

As a gamer, I’d put it this way: “If my financial situation gets tight, I might have to reconsider my choices. Let’s face it, running out of funds is a real game-changer for me.”

Mortensen originally wasn’t intended to be a part of “The Lord of the Rings” production. Director Peter Jackson initially cast Stuart Townsend as Aragorn and filming commenced with him. However, Jackson soon realized that Townsend wasn’t suitable for the character and, influenced by his son, Mortensen unexpectedly traveled to New Zealand at the last minute to take on this iconic role instead.

After completing the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Mortensen went on to act in movies such as Hidalgo, A History of Violence, Eastern Promises, The Road, Captain Fantastic, and Green Book. He received Academy Award nods for his starring parts in Eastern Promises, Captain Fantastic, and Green Book.

I’m thrilled to share that Viggo Mortensen’s latest project is titled “The Dead Don’t Hurt.” In this film, he takes on the roles of writer, director, and lead actor. It’s an exciting development as a fan, knowing that the man behind Aragorn brings both sides of his creativity to the table. Moreover, adding an intriguing Lord of the Rings connection, Mortensen uses Aragorn’s iconic sword from The Lord of the Rings series in this movie.

If I were a gamer and Mortensen was the actor portraying my favorite character, Aragorn, in the Lord of the Rings series, I’d share this excitement: “Mortensen has expressed interest in reprising his role as Aragorn under specific conditions. And guess what? A new Lord of the Rings movie is on the horizon, focusing on the pursuit of Gollum. Aragorn seems like a natural fit for this storyline.”
