Lord Of The Rings Star Has A Blunt Response When Asked If He Would Come Back For New Movies

As a devoted fan who has journeyed alongside Elrond through Middle-earth’s epic tales, I must admit my heart skipped a beat upon hearing Hugo Weaving’s decision to step away from reprising his iconic role. The memories of Elrond’s wisdom and grace during the epic battles and poignant moments in Peter Jackson’s trilogies are etched deep within my heart.

Could it be possible for actor Hugo Weaving, who portrayed Elrond in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movie series, to reprise his role for the upcoming fantasy film sequels?

In an interview with GamesRadar, Weaving stated that fans should consider him done with the series. He expressed that he’s had his fill of it and elaborated that filming the trilogies in New Zealand was enjoyable, but he’s “tired of Middle-earth.” Not only does he not anticipate returning, Weaving added that he doesn’t believe anyone would invite him back for another round.

Apart from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, Weaving also appeared in the film Mortal Engines, created by fellow Lord of the Rings alumni such as Christian Rivers, Peter Jackson, Philippa Boyens, and Fran Walsh. Unfortunately, this production failed to succeed as planned. Weaving himself described it as intended to be their next major franchise, but instead, it didn’t take off and fizzled out.

As a devoted fan, I’d like to share an interesting perspective I came across regarding Elrond. It was mentioned that while Elrond is immortal, his on-screen counterpart, of course, is not. The theory suggests that he might be too old now to convincingly play the role as we know it today.

Elrond is among a select few characters, possibly numbering three or four in total, who appear throughout The Silmarillion, Lord of the Rings, and The Hobbit,” he pointed out. “When we returned to film certain scenes for Lord of the Rings again, I was conscious that I had grown older than I was previously. Filming parts of The Hobbit was beginning to feel a bit absurd at times. I cherished my role in this franchise, but I have no intentions or yearnings to rejoin it anymore.

As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to share that my anticipation is building for “The Pursuit of Gollum,” a working title, which promises to be the next live-action Lord of the Rings film set for release in 2026. The talented Andy Serkis has confirmed his involvement as both star and director. Rumors swirl that esteemed actors like Ian McKellen (Gandalf) and Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn) may reprise their roles, but no formal casting decisions have been made at this time.

The upcoming Lord of the Rings movie, titled “War of the Rohirrim,” will hit cinemas in December. This one is an animated feature.
