The freshly unveiled global preview for “Vírgenes,” the hilarious upcoming comedy by renowned Spanish filmmaker Álvaro Díaz Lorenzo (“Señor, Dame Paciencia”), has just been shared. This sneak peek offers a lively glimpse into what’s expected to be one of the most amusing and heartwarming films of the year.
1960s-set film “Vírgenes” is a heartfelt homage to the tourism surge on Spain’s Costa del Sol. This moving piece made its debut in the non-competitive section of the Málaga Film Festival, featuring César Vicente Romero (“Pain and Glory”), Xavi Caudevilla (“The Protected”) and Carlos Scholz (“Awareness”). The narrative unfolds around three youths – Honorio, Rafa and Vicente – who journey from Sevilla to Torremolinos in pursuit of excitement, liberty, and their initial romantic experiences with Swedish vacationers.
Director Álvaro Díaz Lorenzo expresses his long-standing curiosity about how tourism shaped Málaga and shares stories from his family’s past, stating that he wanted to portray this cultural transformation as experienced by young individuals encountering a completely new realm for the first time.
Presented in a realistic manner, this film delves into cultural differences and universal human connections using humor and heartfelt narratives. It’s a joint production involving Antonio P. Pérez at Spal Films, Vaca Films (known for “Cell 211”), Volf Entertainment, as well as several Spanish cultural entities such as ICAA, RTVE, and the Junta de Andalucía.
Globally, FilmSharks is responsible for managing the sales, while it’s Filmax who will start distributing the movie across Spanish theaters as of June 20.
