Disney is launching a new type of residential community called “Story Living.” These communities will offer both single-family homes and condominiums, and will include amenities like a private club and a central town square.
The first community to be built is called Cotino, and it’s located in Rancho Mirage, California, close to where Walt Disney once had a vacation home. Unfortunately, it might be difficult to book a vacation there – it’s likely to be expensive and availability could be limited.
Short Term Rentals Not Available at This Disney Property
Cotino is different from services like Airbnb because it only offers rentals for a month or longer. Recently, Theme Park Insider toured the homes and writer Robert Niles noted they are clearly designed for gatherings. However, the city of Rancho Mirage has banned short-term rentals since 2022, which should prevent the homes from being used as party rentals like those found on Airbnb. Essentially, you’ll need a connection to a resident to have a party here.

As a big Disney fan, I find it fascinating that they actually tried building two residential communities – Golden Oak and Celebration – right near Walt Disney World in Florida. It’s kind of strange though, because they ended up separating those communities from the Disney property before anyone even moved in! What’s really interesting is that neither community allows short-term rentals like Airbnb, but they do both have fantastic hotels. Celebration has this beautiful inn right on the lake, and Golden Oak is home to the luxurious Four Seasons Resort – it’s right in the middle of everything!
Themed Homes Near Disney Parks
Although Disney isn’t currently opening its planned Cotino community to visitors, many vacation homes near Walt Disney World in Florida feature Disney-inspired themes and decorations.

Check out this amazing Airbnb rental near Disney World: a huge 8-bedroom mansion in Orlando! It’s decorated with themes from popular Disney movies like Beauty and the Beast, Alice in Wonderland, and Ratatouille. The villa has a private pool, a home theater, and even an arcade! It sleeps up to 22 people, has 11 beds, is less than 15 minutes from Walt Disney World, and can be rented for as little as $454 per night.
Surprisingly, that price is often lower than what you’d pay for a standard room at a Disney World resort.
Disney’s new Cotino community is visually appealing, but it’s geared towards residents seeking a luxurious lifestyle, not tourists. While you can’t rent directly in Cotino, plenty of vacation homes are available through services like Airbnb and Vrbo for Disney fans and their groups.

Both Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World in Florida offer plenty for visitors. However, if you’re hoping to experience Story Living by Disney in California’s Coachella Valley, it’s currently not available for shorter stays – you’d need to commit to a month or more to live there.
