‘Longlegs’ Director Says ‘F— Jeff Bezos’ When Asked About James Bond; Edward Berger’s 007 Interest Shifts With Amazon in Control: ‘It’s a Different Equation’

Following Amazon’s acquisition of the James Bond franchise, some directors have expressed less enthusiasm about taking on a 007 film. In a recent Reddit AMA (as reported by IndieWire), director Osgood Perkins – known for successful horror movies like “Longlegs” and “The Monkley” – was asked: “Would you be interested in directing a Bond movie/trilogy? If so, who would you cast as your interpretation of Bond?

Perkins immediately shot down the question by answering: “No, because fuck Jeff Bezos.”

In late February, Amazon Studios (in partnership with MGM) along with long-term Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli unveiled a new collaboration aimed at managing the rights of the 007 franchise. Through this partnership, all three entities share ownership of the franchise, but Amazon Studios will have creative control over it. Upon hearing this news, Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s founder and current executive chair, invited his social media followers to vote on who should be the next James Bond actor.

Although directing a Bond movie for Perkins seems unlikely, there’s been plenty of chatter about Edward Berger, a director renowned for his Oscar-winning films “Conclave” and “All Quiet on the Western Front.” Previously, discussions with Broccoli and Wilson were allegedly underway before Amazon took over. However, Berger refuted these talks when he spoke to Marc Malkin at the 2025 Oscars red carpet. He mentioned that Amazon’s control of 007 has sparked his curiosity about becoming part of the franchise.

Berger commented, “As Barbara Broccoli is no longer involved and she’s key to this project, I believe it’s going to be something new.” He added, “I’m unsure. Things have shifted. We’ll definitely feel her absence greatly.

Berger previously expressed that he was completely invested in Bond when Broccoli managed the franchise, but now the situation has changed. He’s unsure what the future might hold and will only consider it if contacted. However, Barbara plays a crucial role here. If she steps away, things could change significantly.

Amazon has yet to announce its plans for the future of the Bond franchise.
