As a seasoned CS2 fan with a decade of watching under my belt, I must say that the ESL Pro League Season 20 has been nothing short of exhilarating! The record-breaking events we’ve witnessed so far have left me utterly astounded. The latest feat between M80 and Fnatic on Anubis is a testament to the incredible skill and determination of these players, setting an unprecedented 71 rounds mark – a new world record in CS2!
For enthusiasts of Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) esports during ESL Pro League Season 20, it has been an exhilarating journey packed with unexpected twists. The initial map was overruled due to the application of Snap Tap, a notable player on Team Spirit, Danil “donk” Kryshkovets, set a new CS2 kill record, and now, we are witnessing the longest map ever contested in Valve’s first-person shooter.
In the semifinal match for Group C on Anubis (a map chosen by M80), both M80 and Fnatic shattered previous records during the initial game. The score was knotted at 12-12 after regular time, which is when the intense competition reached its peak.

In case you’re unaware, in CS2, extra rounds can continue indefinitely. Specifically, an extra three rounds are added for each team (one round per side), and if a team is two rounds ahead once all six overtime rounds have been played, they win. If the teams remain tied after this initial overtime, such as scoring 15-15, another six rounds of overtime are played. Remarkably, Fnatic and M80 were so evenly matched that they played an astonishing 71 rounds, setting a new world record in the process.
The record is, of course, for professional tournaments and teams, so your CS2 Competitive Silver-ranked games do not count.
During the 63 matches, the tournament organizers provided a restroom break, which was an unusual yet refreshing sight in all the years I’ve spectated CS2 games.
As a point of interest, the longest match ever played in CS2, during the Elisa Invitational Fall 2024 tournament, was between Zero Tenacity and Rhyno. This game stretched over an impressive 64 rounds. Please note that this record does not encompass CS:GO matches.
