According to a data miner’s findings, there are indications that League of Legends might introduce or adjust WASD control options for players, offering multiple customization possibilities.
It’s widely recognized within the community that comparing watching Arcane to playing League of Legends (LoL) is often joked about. While LoL boasts a memorable cast of characters, it can be challenging for newcomers because it demands not just strategic understanding but also proficiency in mechanical skills, such as mastering its click-to-move control system.
Since its debut in 2009, this specific control mechanism has been a defining feature of League of Legends (LoL). Yet, over time, numerous enthusiasts have pondered why Riot Games didn’t incorporate WASD controls initially, given that it could significantly enhance the gameplay experience for certain champions.
After more than ten years, there’s talk that this feature might now be incorporated into the game, following a recent leak.
League of Legends leak reveals WASD controls with different options
The WASD control scheme was initially identified by the data miner SkinSpotlights, who subsequently posted about it on platform X, implying that Riot might be “testing out” or “trying out” these controls as a possibility.
Hi there! Could you tell me about the kind of game mode Monarch represents?
Additionally, I’ve heard that Riot Games is testing out the WASD movement system for an upcoming feature. Is this correct?

Through a deep investigation, they uncovered additional information on the subject, such as the real-life menus and settings associated with it.
Based on the data we’ve mined, it appears that there are fundamentally three choices to consider, namely:
- Cursor
- WASD with Cursor Enhanced
- WASD with Cursor Fallback
As a dedicated gamer, I must admit, I’m yet to fully grasp what these specific features do within the game. However, they’ve hinted that you can navigate using the click-to-move function, similar to the WASD setup. Moreover, there’s an option to activate “smart cast,” which seems to display my character’s orientation, adding a layer of intuitive control to the gameplay experience.
1. The WASD input method will soon become an official option.
2. There are three settings for Flash: “Cursor”, “WASD with Cursor Enhanced”, and “WASD with Cursor Fallback”. I’m not sure what the differences are between them.
3. While using WASD, you can still click to move your character around.
4. There’s a toggle for smart casting, which allows your character to shoot in the direction they’re currently facing.— SkinSpotlights (@SkinSpotlights) May 14, 2025
So far, the community’s response to this unveiling has shown a blend of enthusiasm and reservation. For instance, on a Reddit discussion, many gamers have expressed excitement about playing agile and combo-based champions such as Riven and Draven in this fresh environment.
Simultaneously, there exist players who dislike the idea of learning fresh controls, as they have invested considerable time mastering those in League of Legends.
For the time being, it’s being referred to as a potential reveal, since Riot Games hasn’t made any official announcements. If true, this new setting might prove irresistible to gamers, potentially reshaping the game for good.
