LoL brings massive ranked change in 2025 to help you hit higher ranks

As a dedicated LoL player with years of experience under my belt, I must say I’m quite intrigued by the upcoming changes to League of Legends ranked play. The return to a single annual reset for ranked play in 2025 has me feeling a mix of nostalgia and anticipation.

Starting in 2025, the developer of League of Legends has decided to revert back to a yearly single reset for competitive ranked matches. This marks a departure from the more flexible seasonal resets that were implemented last season.

At the outset of every new season in League of Legends’ ranked mode, players initially find themselves positioned slightly lower on the ladder compared to their final rank from the preceding season. This adjustment takes place prior to the placement matches, which determine and set each player’s starting position for the season before any advancement occurs.

In simpler terms, if you’ve gone through placement matches once, we condense them to just five for the next season, making it easier and smoother for you to get started.

Although the system has been generally well-received, Riot plans to make significant changes prior to the upcoming season of competitive play next year.

In January, there’s going to be a major reset for the updated ranking system, encompassing both visible rank and Matchmaking Rating (MMR). The specifics of this adjustment haven’t been detailed yet, but it’s expected to resemble the formats used in 2022 and prior years.

Regardless of the newly implemented setup, there remains an opportunity for players to secure three Victorious skins annually. This can be achieved by winning a total of 15 ranked matches within each respective season.

As a gaming enthusiast here, I’d be sharing some insights from Andrei Van Roon, the boss at League Studio, regarding the recent changes in our favorite game. He mentioned that these modifications were made to provide an even more immersive and engaging experience for us players, aiming to keep the game fresh and dynamic over time.

Over the past few years, there’s been much discussion about ranked resets, focusing on personal preferences regarding climb restarts frequency, climb speed, and what constitutes a satisfying experience rather than a grueling one.

Upon reflection, it seems our decision wasn’t ideal for League. Therefore, we are returning to a single major reset at the beginning of the year, without any further resets during the year.

The revised setup encourages players to ascend more gradually, potentially leading them to attain higher levels, as it diminishes the necessity for rapid advancement.

For Riot Games, achieving a harmonious equilibrium is crucial, and this balance could significantly impact the highest tiers that players can attain within League of Legends.
