As a die-hard fan of superhero movies and a witness to the evolution of Wolverine, I must say that Michael Green’s perspective on “Deadpool & Wolverine” is nothing short of refreshing. His ability to appreciate the humor and creativity behind Deadpool’s antics, even when it comes to digging up Logan’s corpse, shows a level of maturity and understanding that not everyone might possess.
As a movie reviewer, I found myself immersed in the latest Marvel spectacle, “Deadpool & Wolverine.” Previously, we bid farewell to Hugh Jackman’s legendary portrayal of Wolverine in 2017’s “Logan,” but this film introduces an alternate version of the character. The tale begins with a gripping sequence where Deadpool unearths the decaying remains of the Wolverine from “Logan” and, using his adamantium skeleton, takes down a team of Time Variance Authority agents while NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye” echoes in the background. Quite an entrance, indeed!
Green, who contributed to the screenplay for Reynolds’ well-known “Green Lantern” film, recently discussed with IGN his thoughts on the opening scene of “Deadpool & Wolverine.” It seems some individuals in his circle anticipated he could find Deadpool’s act of desecrating Logan’s body offensive. However, Green didn’t interpret things that way at all. Instead, he saw it as a creative and bold storytelling choice.
“Green was told beforehand, ‘I’m not sure how you’ll react to the premiere of Deadpool & Wolverine,'” Green said. “But I thought I had a good idea. Little did I know they would push things so far beyond my expectations.”
Green clarified, “You shouldn’t have thought they were genuinely planning to unearth him, and that it was actually him. It seemed more like they were grappling with the challenge of matching the quality of ‘Logan’, which is a testament to its greatness! I sensed it was all praise, not criticism.”
Green enthusiastically declared that “Deadpool & Wolverine” was an absolute blast to watch. He further noted that when they saw it in a packed theater, the audience went wild over everything. In his opinion, it’s fantastic. It’s a wonderful franchise, and he can’t wait for more. Additionally, Green was pleased that there were no Green Lantern jokes since he played a part in its creation. Instead, he proudly wore any references to this character as a badge of honor!
Making sure not to interfere with the narrative of “Logan” was a top priority for me when I agreed to be part of “Deadpool & Wolverine.”
Jackman mentioned that he chose to return to the Marvel universe due to a device in their multiverse travel, as explained to SiriusXM. This gadget allows time-travel, which is based on scientific principles, ensuring his comeback doesn’t disrupt the “Logan” timeline, a concern shared by both him and the fans.
“Fans of comic book movies hold ‘Logan’ in high regard, and even Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige advised Jackman against reprising his role as the character. In a conversation with Empire, he said, “I advised Hugh, ‘Stay away. You had an incredible ending with ‘Logan.’ We don’t want to spoil that.'”
