As a seasoned movie aficionado who has traversed the cinematic landscapes of various cultures and genres, I eagerly anticipate the arrival of “Seed of the Desert.” The tantalizing glimpse offered by its trailer has left me intrigued and excited.

The Paris-based sales company, Loco Films, has acquired global distribution rights for the Colombian low-fi sci-fi thriller “Seed of the Desert” (originally titled “Semilla del Desierto”), which will be premiering in competition at this year’s Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival.

EbMaster has been given exclusive access to the film’s trailer, seen below.

The movie premieres on Monday, November 18th, and includes a Question-and-Answer session with Parra, who is not only the director but also the screenwriter of the film. Additionally, Andrés Gómez D, the cinematographer David Curto, production designer Belen Toscano y Garcia, executive producer Tatiana Ronderos, unit manager producer Cesar León, and sound designer Aleix Cuaresma will all be participating in this event.

The gripping tale unfolds in a fictional desert landscape, where our protagonists Caviche and Chelina find themselves in a challenging predicament upon learning about an unforeseen pregnancy. Fearing her violent father’s reaction, Chelina contemplates an abortion. Struggling to afford the procedure, they are compelled to navigate the treacherous world of gasoline smuggling on a harrowing journey resembling a “Mad Max” nightmare.

As per Javier Garcia Puerto, a programmer from Tallinn, the film “[Seed of the Desert]” emphasizes the modern trend in Latin American cinema to tell contemporary stories, while dabbling with genres and showcasing persistent social realities within a fantasy context, without being limited to the traditional urban drama narrative.

As a passionate cinephile, I’m thrilled to be part of the production team behind Solar Cinema, a film project I have high hopes for. The journey started when we successfully ran a crowd-funding campaign, with my colleague Lisa Maric serving as co-producer. Our efforts didn’t go unnoticed, as Proimágenes Colombia stepped in to provide institutional support, further boosting our production capabilities.

Regarding their chosen film, Laurent Daniélou and Arnaud Godart from Loco Films shared with EbMaster that they were immediately captivated by the mesmerizing cinematography of this fast-paced desert chase in the opening scene. Moreover, they were impressed by the clever storytelling that creatively utilized the tropes of dystopian tales to address pressing social matters such as family values and environmental concerns.

Regarding its genre, this movie stands out as a powerful cinematic work, evoking memories of the original ‘Mad Max’ films. Every frame of the movie feels like it was crafted for the big screen.
