Locarno Film Festival Launches U.S.-European Indie Film Financing Initiative in Tandem With Oxbelly

At the upcoming Locarno Film Festival, the industry sector will debut a collaborative film financing project between the United States and Europe, in partnership with Oxbelly – a charitable organization based in Greece, led by Caroline von Kühn, a previous director of the Sundance Institute.

The Locarno Investment Community initiative aims to draw in both seasoned U.S. investors seeking to broaden their horizons within the European film industry and fresh faces eager to aid indie cinematography. Known as a global hub for independent cinema, Locarno offers financiers the chance to interact with up-and-coming and established filmmakers, investigate innovative funding methods, and foster the expansion of independent films. This is based on a recent announcement.

Oxbelly consistently facilitates year-round opportunities for established, US-based film investors who wish to invest in productions within the European co-production market.

According to Markus Duffner, the leader of Locarno Pro – the business aspect of the festival – the ultimate goal for this project is to draw a group of investors in cinema from America, Europe, and Switzerland, so as to maintain their continuous involvement and financial support for independent filmmaking.

For the first time, the Locarno Investment Community initiative is taking place from August 7th to 10th. This event will bring American film financiers to significant industry events and networking occasions in Locarno, granting them access to the entire festival’s schedule.

During a period marked by worldwide discord, American film financiers and benefactors understand the significance of backing diverse independent storytellers, as a means to collectively reshape prevalent stories.
