As a lifelong Zelda fan, I can hardly contain my excitement! Ever since I was a kid, Link and Hyrule have been an integral part of my gaming journey. From defeating Ganon for the first time to exploring the vast, beautiful landscapes of Breath of the Wild, these adventures have been some of the most memorable experiences of my life.

Within the subsequent five years, it’s expected that Link will make his big-screen debut, brandishing the Master Sword. Nintendo has announced their intentions for a live-action Zelda film, scheduled for release in cinemas by the close of this current decade.

In the financial report for Nintendo’s second quarter of fiscal year 2025, they provided a tentative release year (202X) for their live-action Zelda film. This suggests that Nintendo intends to bring The Legend of Zelda movie to cinemas before 2030. Additionally, it was mentioned in the same report that a new animated Super Mario Bros. film will debut on April 3, 2026.

As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t contain my excitement about the announcement that dropped nearly a year ago. Nintendo has joined forces with Sony Pictures Entertainment to bring us a live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda! Wes Ball, director of the acclaimed Planet of the Apes series, is at the helm for this project. His vision? To create a live-action masterpiece that embodies the ethereal charm of Hayao Miyazaki’s work, while making it feel as genuine and tangible as the game itself.

Haley Joel Osment playfully mentioned his wish to take on the role of Link, while Euphoria’s Hunter Schafer found it exciting to possibly play Zelda in a movie adaptation. Additionally, Takaya Imamura, creator of Tingle, suggested that Heroes actor Masi Oka should portray the spandex-clad character if he makes an appearance in the film.

No official casting has been announced at this time.
